Those in/near Chicagoland, there are some nice weekly handicapping contests at Hawthorne, throughout the fall meet.
Saturdays is there Pick 5 Challenge. 1 Free Entry with $2 paid admission (1 entry max, DQ'd if multiples submitted). $2500 weekly prize ($5,000 to a single winner with all 5 as their first choice). Works like a 'Partial Wheel' format to make it easier, you get 5 selections in the first leg, 4 in the second, 3 in the third, 2 in the 4th, and 1 in the final leg.
A married couple in our group had a big day about 2 weeks ago. The husband, Bruce, a newcomer who sometimes attends with his handicapping enthusiast wife Laura Jean, was one of 3 winners in the Pick 5 challenge, getting an $833 share. Amazingly, 2 races later, Laura Jean won an on-track drawing that day, a Trip for Two to the 2006 Breeders' Cup!
