I love Starcraft and Saint Liam, but are they no-hopers with those outside posts? Won't they have to be miles best to win from there?

The 3 winning posts for the classic in '90, '95, and '01 were 14, 10, and 10 respectively. Unbridled was 4th choice, Cigar was a favorite, Tiznow was 3rd choice. Perhaps the outside is not so bad in that one.

Wow, that makes it seem that outside is better.

Aptitude burned up a lot of money from post 12 the year Tiznow won at Belmont.

And, the year Unbridled won from stall #14---Ibn Bay ran 2nd to him at 38-to-1 odds from post two, and Thirty Six Red finished 3rd at 29-to-1 odds from post position 3.

I don't think the post is as big a deal as some may think it is in the Classic, but, I think an inside-to-middle draw would be favored over an outside post.

Let's not kid ourselves to much---Unbrideld, Cigar, and Tiznow would probably have won from any post. All three of them were excellent horses.

Cigar was much the best over those horses and Unbridled saved all the ground on the 2nd turn. Tiznow wow, he was 5W and 5W.

Yes....but, in all fairness, the outside paths were obviously preferred on BC Day 2001 at Belmont.

I won't go as far as to say it was a Dead rail day, like Watchmaker and many others have said, but it was crystal clear that the rail wasn't exactly where you wanted to be on that day.
