I think it is really interesting that all 7 turf races held at Belmont were won by Europeans.

The Europeans like Belmont because of its size. It's more like one of their courses. No tights turns, which they loathe. I think further investigation would find that the Belmont BC's average a higher number of European horses. Being turf is their game, particulary long turf, lotsa Europeans equals lotsa losses for the US gang. Watch Shakespeare get his a$$ handed to him next Saturday by the Euros.

Quick rundown of the history of turf races for Euros at BEL...

1990:
Mile: Royal Academy, EURO
Turf: In the Wings, EURO

1995:
Mile: Ridgewood Pearl, EURO
Turf: Northern Spur, non-Euro

2001:
Mile: Val Royal, former Euro
F + M Turf: Banks Hill, EURO
Turf: Fantastic Light, EURO

Depending on how you look at it, in the span of seven turf races at BEL on the grass, there are 4 or 5 euro winners (Val Royal). They look to be solid bets Saturday.

As for climate, the AQ BC had Pebbles and Cozzene winning, right?

Yes, that's right .. Cozzene & Pebbles both won at Aqueduct.

The stat link lists all the winners + connections, etc. for each of the races over all the years .. hard to believe it's been 21 years since the 1st running!!

Speaking of climate .. the link gives the temperatures from each of the days, too.

What happens if the turf course is a mud hole at Belmont for BC day? If Hurricane Wilma comes up the Atlantic Coast as predicted there may be substantial rain on the course for Saturday.

Any ideas for mud capabiltiy or off track turf capabiltiy for the cup?

Latest projections for Wilma show it moving more and more AWAY (east) from Long Island and Belmont Park....
30% chance of rain forecast for early Wednesday, then clear the rest of the week.....

Turf should be good to go, along with everything else, by Saturday....
