The Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1), the world’s richest race with a purse of $6-million, will be shown live on network television in the United States for the first time in 2006 with 1½ hours of coverage on ABC.

Basil DeVito Jr., president of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, said the broadcast on March 25 from Nad al Sheba racecourse would also include the $2-million United Emirates Derby (UAE-G2) and other races on the $15-million World Cup card.

ABC, which will begin an exclusive deal next year with the New York Racing Association to televise the Belmont Stakes (G1), also will take over as the broadcast home of the Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) in April at Aqueduct. The Travers (G1) could join ABC or stay with ESPN.
