After reading posts by Karlskorner...in his honor...thought I would concentrate on 1 horse per race at Calder today. I have handicapped the first four races without scratches or track conditions. With that said...here are the horses I like..

Race 1:#6...Lancette's Wager

Race 2:#9...Leagleyeser

Race 3:#6...R. Faithful

Race 4:#8...Assassinator

I'll try to get the rest of my picks up for the card later. Would love to know what Karl or anyone else thinks of my choices.

Had some rain yesterday, here is todays's maintenance report;

Main track fast
The track will be floated first to even out and then worked with the packing harrows. We had 1/2 rain yesterday so we won't need to put any water out before the first.

Turf course
The turf course is good. We rolled it this morning and will roll it after each turf race. Temporary rail set out 10'

Good luck with your choices. I am leaving now to look at the track, we had a lot more rain where I live (7 miles north of CRC) and I don't think the track is in that good condition.

Jim

Jim,

That's not all that bad ... I consider myself lucky if I can hit 1/3 ;)

Double congratulations on the 4 horse in the10th, paid $27.40.

My day as follows:
Got to CRC and walked over to track, still damp, but the packing harrows were working clockwise, good sign, asked one of the pony riders how they rolled the turf and he told me counterclock wise, bad sign. Lost 1st race. 2nd on the grass, was told it was still soft. Had a "key race horse" in that race, came out of a race on 5/12-1 as a winner, 2 horses from that race went on to win their next race. Decided to play her rather than a win wager. That was a MC race and now going into an ALwNW1, bad sign, came in 2nd and 3rd in 2 previous turf races, good sign, 12/1 10 min. before post, bad sign, looked good in the paddock, decided to play her for place at $40.00, she placed and paid $10.20. Won the 3rd, 4th, 5th, (was on the grass, they sent the rollers clockwise over the grasss after 3rd & 4th race, good sign) 6 no play 6 FTS) won 7th & 8th and went home. I have a steadfast rule, if at any time during the day I double my walk-in money I go home. My walk-in money was $360. (9 x $40.00 ) by the end of the 8th I was ahead $456.00, went home. Would have lost the 9th and 10th. I just looked at the 4 horse in the 10th, no way I would have had him, nice choice.

Karl,
What is the significance of the direction they roll or harrow?

:confused:

Tom;

If you are just harrowing the track, you are doing nothing but cleaning it up for the next race. But if you are harrowing or rolling under pressure your are trying to bring the water to the top after a rain, running the pressure both ways assures the maximum water brought up to dry. When you squeeze a sponge you squeeze it both ways to dry it out.
