Ok, I just got a new computer, just for me - no kids on it to dowload the latest viruses, even my wife says she'll stay off it! Works on Windows XP. Now I guess I haven't been paying attention, but where is MSDOS? I still have some programs that use it. If it isn't included, is there some way of installing it or do I have to kick my kids off the old computer so I can run my dos programs.

Thanks

Good luck with this one, banacek. There hasn't been a real MS-DOS version since 6.22. Windows 9x had a version I believe called v7 so that you could boot to a real DOS (not a command) prompt. The pure 32-bit versions of Windows use a DOS emulator (DOS 32, I think), hence the references to a command rather than DOS prompt.

You might be able to make some of your programs work, but my gut feeling is that it will be difficult if not unlikely. Compatibility mode would be the way to go. Here are some links to check out:

Or you can try dual-booting....

Begin with START; go to HELP; go to upper left box; type in DOS, click ARROW. This should help.

Thanks for the info. I should have found the command prompt and I wasn't even drinking.

I run dos programs on both XP and 2000 with no real problems. I didn't do anyhting special - double click on the exe files in the folders. I love my dos.
