Gimme a break. Who is this one supposed to be for?

Before the fuss, pleading and protests broke out, Magna officials were there, asking permission to conduct a spanking brand new exotic bet which we'll call a "Quad-Trifecta," which by its name is easily understandable. You've got to pick the first three finishers, in correct order, for four separate races. The payoffs ought to be in the millions of dollars, if operated correctly. Now the occasional well thought-out exotic bet over the past 50 years has produced huge profits and caused a great prosperity at times. Remember the "Five-ten," "Big Bonanza" and " Double Triple?" They got great publicity, brought out big crowds, but lost favor when the reasonably simple Exacta bet began to proliferate and flourish.

Magna proposed some unique addendums to the Quad-Trifecta. Instead of waiting for the outcome of four successive races, at, say, Laurel, the QT would consist of action all within the period of an hour, based on races in Maryland and at other tracks around the country that day.

The pick 6 was/is popular but didn’t the pick 9 kind of fizzle? Isn’t there a point at which a bet becomes too insane?

At least they scrapped plans for the proposed "Absolute Perfection" where you have to order the entire field perfectly in every race on the card...

I think with more than two legs, the odds against multiply so exponentially as to require hundreds of thousands in payoff to justify the risk. I'm fine with a double-superfecta.

Hey, what's going on with the Choose-Six?

these gimmicks benefit no one, except the tracks take out and someone crooked enough, to set it up for a big score. This kind of foolishness isn't for the benefit of the horse player or horsemen.

The real problem is that with astronomically high odds there just may not be enough money in the pool to make such a payoff. Then they do dumb things like, win-win-win-all as opposed to narrowing down to who had the "best" tickets in the last race.

If this bet goes into effect, then $1million should be the guaranteed payout to start. It would be hard to generate much early interest if anything less.
If they actually go forward with this wager, a time limit before a mandatory payout should also be set. This is pretty much Lotto at the races and the only advantage over Lotto would be the ability to actually play numbers that have some meaning. Still ,with 12 numbers versus Lotto's 7 or so, it remains something that probably more resembles Lotto then anything else.
Edit-

Agreed. Not well thought out. Two supers or four exactas would be much better.

Stupidity on Magna's part, no surprise.
