For a personal reason, I want to know. If you are asked to vote for the five most popular tracks in the US, which will you vote for? And what are their campaign dates?

Thanks.

If you go by average daily handle, and discount "big" days like Derby Day at Churchill, you'd get:

Saratoga
Del Mar
Belmont
Santa Anita
Aqueduct
Keeneland
Hollywood Park
Churchhill Downs
Gulfstream Park
Oaklawn
Fairplex
Golden Gate
Arlington

New York & So Cal racing at the top, as expected...

Saratoga is "America's Racetrack". They average 26,000 a day. No other track is even close to that.

This list:

Mountaineer (easily, on track configuration alone)
Fonner Park
Yavapai Downs
Remington Park
Mohave County Fair

If you included Canada, I'd add Marquis Downs.

Oops. You said "popular", not "peculiar".

Okay, this list:

Saratoga
Del Mar
Keeneland
Santa Anita
Belmont

Now the big question is, which track is the most popular with the Horses

I guess you have be there, I don't get all hyped up over SAR. don't get me wrong it's cool and all, like I said I guess you have to visit it. I like Del Mar better, I like CD maybe cause I'm 12 miles away from it. Del Mar-Sar-Keeland, seems to be all in the same ball park, maybe cause they only run for only 2 months at a time. Why can't the breeders cup come to CD every 3rd year?? ;) We break all the other records every time it comes here. It should go BEL-SA-CD. Any other tracks??

As far as the horses liking it, most horses come out of oaklawn in pretty good shape, and I hear that alot like Belmont as well. Keeneland is tough on them usually.

That should help me to plan my US trip in 2006.

A friend also sent in Thoroughbred Times Racing Almanac (2004) that seems to contain very exhastive info, which although dated, gives a fair idea.

I thank you all again for your valuable inputs.
