These are the current odds for the 2008 elections available on Betfair (http://www.betfair.com).

Back Odds are in the first column after a name and lay odds are in the second column.

For example, you can back Hillary for 1.9-1 and you can lay her for 2.8-1. (I will let you guys make the jokes about the terminology).

I think a good bet here is to lay Rudy at 3-1. He might win the nomination, but his odds should be much longer than 3-1.

Another good bet you are almost certain to win is to lay Arnold at 500-1. Think about it. Would Republicans nominate a candidate who can't legally be elected President? Uh. Wait a second. Scratch that thought. Some people would say that didn't stop them last time around.

I am a little confused by the terms here. is a lay bet a bet that the person will not win the election? If so, does this mean I would have to bet say 500 on Ahnold not to win to win 1 ?

Yes. That is correct. And it's probably an overlay even at 500-1. I think it's more like 5000-1 or 5,000,000-1. Given that he can not be elected since he was not born in U.S.

I'm for neither party, but I must say, I sincerely hope the Democrats have some closers that jump in at the quarter pole. Those listed look like dog-catcher material. Step one: lose Howard Dean as chairboy. Even Republicans want this, if they value a fair fight.
