As recently as last week Pinnacle had a prop wager on whether gas would hit $4/gallon. It was a big price; 7-1 or 8-1. I wish I had gotten some of that. I think the bet was it had to hit $4 by New Years 2006.

I think it will be there and maybe even as high as $5, so I might take that wager to make up for some of the extra cost for gas. Who or what is going to stop the price escalation?

Now, let us not forget the tremendous stress these oil companies are under - record proits, essentially no re-investment of profits into the businesses, records tax relief from Sugar Daddy Bush in his worthless energy bill that addresses everything BUT an energy policy. All this while NHOT ONE SINGLE DROP OF GAS that is selling for around $3 a gallon today was refined and delivered after the hurricane - so not one single drop of any of it cost the oil companies any more to sell that what they were selling last week. If this isn't profteerin, I don't know what is. These scum buckets are no better than the slime balls who were selling ice for $10-$20 a bag in NYC during the balckouts a couple years ago. There NO difference between Mobile and the looters in NO getting new TVs. NONE.
Here is what we are doing here. About 30 of us are emeting everyday, trying to gain support for a plan. We are targeting one gas station in town to be the only "survivor." We are trying to get as many people as we can to buy only from this one guy and hopefully drive the rest of the stations out of business. No mercy. The only thing theses cretins understand is money and they have never once considered what they are doing to our lives, so we are no longer going to car what happens to them. We are planning pickets lines at every other station in town to inform any potential customers of our plan and to encourage them to boycott everyone else. And NO GAS from oil from the middle east will ever be allowed on our approved list. SoCalFan was kind enough to provide us with a list of oil companies that we can safely buy from and not support the islamic infection - tip o' the hat to you, Diane!

Oh, yeahm no wBush want to tap into strategic reserves. Good sjhow, Georgie boy - what are we going to refine it in? Your empty head! Look up the meaning of "strategic" - I guess like the word "border" Bush has no clue as to what it means.

2.89 regular here, but expecting it to go way up.

"According to the latest tally Wednesday from the federal Minerals Management Service, a total of 561 platforms and rigs have been evacuated in the Gulf of Mexico, which accounts for a quarter of US oil production.

Over 91 percent of normal daily crude oil production in the Gulf -- 1.5 million barrels -- is now shut down, and more than 83 percent of natural gas production, the MMS said."

My point was that the refineries are down - crude doesn't help a bit.
When the refineries get back up, the oil companies will be basically using up ouor strategic oil reserve - a very small yet vital reserve - and selling back to us at inflated price gouging.

That's why 4 years ago we should have passed that bill that would have given incentives and streamlined the process to build more refineries. Everyone has known for a long time we don't have enough refining capacity. But, it took 4 freakin years to pass the thing because it included drilling in ANWAR. We might have had some new refineries on line now if it wasn't for the partisan crap.

Then I assume the reserves are to be used at the refineries that are running but have had their flow of oil interrupted from the closed rigs in the gulf.

How will they get it to them if what's in the Gulf is stuck there?

Question? The mere RUMOR of the hurricane shot prices up well before ANY costs were incurred by the oil companies.
Why did the news of Bush freeing up more oil not send them back down?
This is price gouging, plain and simple.

Baton Rouge.....this morning Exxon 87octane was bought by me for $2.46 after a 75min wait; tonight signs at Race Trac show 87octane price @ $2.99. Shell hasn't sold any gas in Baton Rouge in (2) days although there is a huge Shell refinery approx 15 miles north of New Orleans and (50) or so miles south of Baton Rouge (I don't know its status.) Chevron seems to be a hit & miss proposition; some days yes, others no. Until Race Trac's posted price tonight, we have been in the $2.45 to $2.51 range for major brand gasoline for the past (3) wks.

Does anyone remember the '70's when in San Antonio we would have prescribed days to purchase gasoline based only on the 1st letter of your surname?

Now 87 octane $3.29, only $3.19 with a fillup, up 30 cents over the last 2-3 days.

Station 0.8mi down the road had it for $2.96 tonight, we'll see how long that will last.

Discovered the new prices tonight while out on my walk. Glad I've started walking again almost 2 weeks ago. I have a few key places with a mile, mile and a half of me. If I can get in decent shape (I'm a mighty big guy, so walking would do me a lot of good).

Racing in Chicago moves from AP to Hawthorne in Mid-Sept. AP's front gate is 1.5 miles from me. Hawthorne is a 30 mile drive each way. I love Hawthorne and the 4% rebate on live racing with the player's card. But I doubt I'll drive down there very often this fall/winter, with a round trip costing at least $9-$10 in gas alone.

Discounters, RaceTrak & CircleK, et al, are in $2.89 to $2.99 range, mostly $2.99.

Lines at pumps are non-existant except for a few interstate locations.

Chalmette & BP refineries remain weeks from start-up with some rumors that it may be 1st of year. I haven't heard anything lately about the Chevron refinery in Pascagoula; anyone with an update on that monster refinery?

$2.89 to $3.09 at various places in Las Vegas.

It's only $1.49 at one place. The only problem is that the place hasn't been open in over a year. It doesn't stop people from pulling in and checking it out, though.

Chevron Corp. said Friday it will complete an assessment of damage at its 325,000 barrel-per-day refinery in Pascagoula, Miss., next week after Hurricane Katrina forced it shut in late August.

Our high water mark here is now $5.06... Toronto, Canada

But since the dollar is worth $1.05 greenbacks... flocking to the border malls by the thousands and buying big ticket items, like cars, further south...

Much of the high price of gasoline can probably be attributed to political risk in the middle east. Until things stabilize there prices will probably remain high.

$3.86 here in PA. Those evil speculators. But have no fear. Barry and Eric will get this fixed before the 2012 election. You can take that to the bank.
