Due to Hurricane Katrina, Calder postponed Saturday's
fifth race, the Aspidistra Handicap on the turf, to
Labor Day. The races numbered 6 through 13 in the DRF
have been each moved up one and renumbered to 5
through 12.

Thanks for the heads-up. That can turn into something much worse than a cancellation. Imagine betting a pick-3 on the wrong sequence. Hope nothing hits the fan.

Why the hell would Calder do that, knowing full well that PP providers have already put together paper, programs and PP files? Do they have any consideration for the people looking to bet their races?

I was going to bet that card, too. F--- them.

BRIS and other providers had it correct, the fault was at DRF, not CRC. Remember we just came through a hurricane (force 1) CRC lost some fencing, trees and glass and cancelled Fridays card, they decided to move the Aspidistra to Labor Day, not expecting a crowd today.

To bad you decided not to play the card today at CRC, you missed a great day, Tom Schell's horse in the 6th went off at 6.40/1 and placed for 2nd paying $6.60. ONLY MOUNT FOR THE DAY angle did very well, all in all it was a very good day.

Karl:

To say the DRF is at fault is laughable. Obviously, you don't understand that the DRF is printed at least 48 hours in advance, everyday. The Saturday Form was on the newsstands on Friday. Calder made this change on Friday. For Calder to make this change 24 hours in advance shows ZERO regard for people who are interested in handicapping their races using the DRF. And don't blame the hurricane. If the hurricane was so bad, and they had so much damage, why the hell were they able to run 12 races today?

It's infuriating only because A) Calder has done something similar in the past, on several occasions, by changing their "Field" horses 24 horses out, causing the DRF to have wrong numbers, and B) It was completely unnecessary. Do you honestly think the running of the Aspidistra draws a single extra person to the track?

Amyway, I'm glad you made money. I don't figure to play there again until November, at the earliest.

The DRF is a joke. They now print the track program at Saratoga. It used to be Sports Eye, a Long Island firm that also specializes in printing racing info both thoroughbred and harness.

On Thursday, two full days before Travers Day, trainer Jimmy Toner noticed that his horse had Eibar Coa listed as its rider on the overnight sheet (just printed) when it should have been Cory Nakatani. He immediately called attention to the mistake. When NYRA officials tried to get the DRF to make the change, also on Thursday morning, they were told "it's too late." No wonder there are so many announced changes.

The entire Saturday card at Saratoga was drawn on Wednesday, not "just printed", so it wasn't "immediately" called to anyone's attention, obviously. I'm sure that, due to a bigger press run than usual, the deadlines were earlier, maybe even Wednesday night. You would think the overnight would be correct for the biggest day of NYRA's biggest meet, but that must also be DRF's fault.

I looked into this here at DRF, and here's what I've learned:
If there is a data error the procedure is NYRA logs in to the InCompass system, the one that they used to generate the pp's that they originally sent us, and makes the change themselves. We don't even have a password to this system. They would have gone to their system and made the fix themselves and then they would ftp the new pp's to DRF for printing.

Related aside: If we were to tick off NYRA by not doing what they asked, it would be a terrible business decision for us. So the only time anything is "too late" is if it truly is "too late".
