I'll be in town on Aug. 21 covering the Jockey Club Roundtable in the morning for Sports Business Journal. I might stay for part of the afternoon card depending on family obligations --- wonder if anyone will be there.

I'd guess 20-30,000 will be there.

I say 60,000 to 65,000 - all toting steins.

The Jockey Club guys generally seem to be sharp folks whereas the racetrack execs at best talk a good game but otherwise act like Curly Joe on a plumbing project. Did you get that impression? For example, when the racetrack types got up to speak, did they drop their steins with a loud crash?

I can't make it unfortunately. Would be interesting to hear.

It's also interesting that BMeadow is talking to CHRB this Friday. Wonder if a lot of the same topics will be discussed on both coasts?

I'll be watching for coverage of the events.

I like this description of the blanket for sale:

SARATOGA RACE COURSE STADIUM BLANKET -FLEECE

Is that what it's made of, or is that is what they're trying to do to the buyer of the blanket? :D

sam,

First few races is probably what I'm good for too since I have to head home that day and it's a 3-hour drive.

Turns out Dave won't be there....

If it rains, all bets are off -- I got enough rain at last year's Travers. :)

I'll be back up on Wednesday anyway for three days....
