A jockey died of heat exhaustion Saturday at Colonial, which probably influenced their decision.

WOW, just how hot is it there? You'll understand this being in Europe (and me in Canada) but we heard it's mid to upper 40's.

I guess when enough jockeys do not want to ride for whatever reason they are given a little leeway, since the have no medical insurance?

Chart says 39 (101 US :)). Still really hot for a dehydrated jockey - not the time to be hitting the sweatbox to make weight.

It was 117 when I was in Las Vegas! Got goofy from the heat, BillW had to slap me back to reality :D

Doesn't this heat hurt the horses? Damn near killed ME!

The management at Delaware Park is hot in other ways too. Their new bet, the Choose Six has had a daily guaranteed pool for two weeks now and not one day has the public bet enough to reach the guarantee. The guarantee is now at $5,000 and the total bet into this pool on a daily basis doesn't even come close to that figure.
