"You knew the job was dangerous when you took it".

no replies may be from the fact that the article requires registration with DRF. I for one remember a long thread about how most won't register.........including me.........I won't register to read their drivel...........

Interesting column by Paul Moran. He seems to get the fan's displeasure with NYRA.

You have to hit "sports" and then scroll down to Paul Moran

A quote " The New York Racing Associations ship was listing when it left Saratoga last Labor Day. By the end of the Belmont meeting last week, the angle had become precarius. Yesterday the sail hit the water and the hull ran aground "

Other than the on-track problems, the NYRA handle at Saratoga was pretty good on opening day. The combined instate and out of state handle totaled
$10,182,964 on Wednesday while it was $10,263,338 in 2004. All during the 2005 Aqu & Bel meets the out of state has been consistently down about 15%.
And the on-track attendance was up slightly.

Other than the on-track problems, .

Thats a Big "other than". No infield tote, no tote machines, TV's, escalators, and all things electric were intermintent. Injuries, issues with detention barns (tents). Lost a Big Horse in PURGE.

It's a tough time for NYRA right now. Very tough. This is the reality of the situation. The events are not a reflection of preperation and readiness, but more reflective of the damage down by the events of the last 18 months.

Horseplayers do not accept senseless change stoically. Until yesterday, NYRA was foremost among the few racetrack operators that still publish a traditional, small program - the type favored by most serious horseplayers.

NYRA's was particularly good because it included simulcast tracks. It wasn't broken. It is now. The new version unveiled without fanfare substitutes useless graphic drivel for the other tracks on which NYRA accepts betting.

In his criticism of the small program, Moran fails to mention the contract to produce all NYRA racing programs (as of the start of the Saratoga meet) has been given to the DAILY RACING FORM. They used to be produced by Sports Eye.

Reflecting on the harsh criticisms dealt out in NYS Comptroller Alan Hevesi's most recent NYRA audit, this new business relationship between NYRA and the DRF is an interesting development.
