Any of you who have read my posts know that I'm not much of a tote board watcher. Well, today I looked at the board for the Preakness and there was one thing that really stood out. The show bets were too evenly distributed across all of the horses, an opportunity.

So, I put a small show wager on War Emblem. It returned $4.40, pretty amazing I thought.

Still, I say get the horse first, then find a way to wager on it. I had the exacta, too, so this was sort of a bonus play.

You can do this in a race like the Preakness where a last second bet won't tilt the odds. But in most races, you might think you're getting $4.40 to show until the last flash when some whale will shove that down to $3.20.

Good point. With millions in the pool, it isn't going to change much.
