To survive the movie industry figured out how to make money using new technology and keep up with the times; in horseracing, we have a high schooler with his own show- but the most recent song about horseracing in his signature line is by Bing Crosby!LOL!! :bang:

Years ago there was talk around that since the inception of the OTB that eventually all the tracks would close to the public and have all betting done through the OTB's. That was discussed by Harvy Pack and Frank Wright on the radio back in the late 70's and early 80's. The racing commission claimed their handle was down so much. They say I don't know if it's true that the OTB killed Roosevelt Raceway. At one time NYRA closed at around Thanksgiving and didn't open again until March. Then they put in the inner track. The fields were very small when it first opened. The handle was not what they expected. All the good traiers went south and all the junk stayed here. Now the winter track has bigger fields then the main track. So there will always be a reason they can't pull in more money.
At one time in New York in the winter if you wanted to bet at the OTB you either betBowie or Timmion. Gulfstream and the other tracks were not permitting the OTB to take bets.
So now you can just about bet any track in the country and everyone get a little and that is one of the problems California , New York and Florida want all the money. Greed Greed.
