THIS WEEK: CNL, DEL, BEL, MON, AP and FINGER LAKES BABY!!!

Not much time to seriously 'cap today's features, but here's a snapshot.. First the Colonial Trio, followed by the rest of the day's action in order of approximate post time.

CNL 7th: VA OAKS, $200,000, 9f, F & M, 3 y.o., 3:48 PM

1.) MASSEUSE (Castellano/Toner) 116-6/1: Step up candidate from one of the best grass tutors there is.

3.) RICH IN SPIRIT (Stevens/Proctor) 122-7/5: Serious filly and heavy fave from red hot Proctor under steaming Stevens.

8.) MY TYPHOON (Bailey/Mott) 118-3/1: Can't dismiss lightly-raced Giant's Causeway doll from Live Oak/Mott/Bailey that chased Melhor Ainda and is a half sis to Galileo.

5.) DYNAMIST (J. Velazquez/Dickinson) 118-5/1

CNL 8th: 17th ALL ALONG BC Stakes (Gr. III-T), $200,000, 9f, F & M, 3+, All 120#, 4:16 p.m.

8.) STUPENDOUS MISS (Stevens/Dollase) 6/1: Dollase not one to ship without just cause. Playable under Iceman in N.A. stakes debut.

7.) SNOWDROPS (Dominguez/Clement) 9/2: Professional race mare rarely fails to contend.

2.) TOPIARY (Garcia/Smith) 20/1: Crazy price available on Arch daughter that should love trip, will save ground, and showed real moxie winning on this sod last out.

14.) BRIVESCA (Bailey, Mott) 7/2: Gallorette runner-up makes sense here; post no bargain.

6.) BROAD HOPES (Castellano/Sheppard) 15/1: Dangerous to ignore Sheppard in setting like this; Geo. Strawbridge-bred six year old daughter of Broad Brush missed all of '04, and looks like she's in form.

CNL 9th: 8th VA DERBY (Gr. III-T), $750,000, 10f, 3+, 4:44 p.m.

An absolutely fabulous turf scramble... Not a lot of pace, so as usual, it comes down to the run for the wire and who loses too much ground off the awkward first turn at the start... Euro invader Rebel Rebel may be a bet-against first time in N.A. especially if it's very hot/humid in Richmond. A tough, tough betting race that deserves Gr. II status, at the least, based on this group.

8.) RUSH BAY (Albarado/Amoss) 120/8-1: Jeff Cup winner ready for next step up ladder. Has really shown his class since move to green.

4.) ENGLISH CHANNEL (Velazquez/Pletcher) 120/9-5: Underlay number for CNL Cup winner that won nicely here but faces a better group today.

9.) INTERPATATION (Luzzi/Barbara) 118/20-1: Loved him in the CNL Cup (3rd at 17-1), but lost chance under brutal Turner. Adds Luzzi today and that could make all the difference.

1.) REBEL REBEL (Bailey/Frankel) 116/9-2: Figures prominently if fires, but different kind of oval, possible heat issues say to tread lightly.

EXOTIC CONSIDERATIONS:

7.) Silver Whistle (Dominguez/Mott) 116/20-1: May be lying in wait, and could forget to stop... 6.) Spring House (Stevens/J. Hennig) 116/10-1: Kent BC troublemaker figures in exotic mix... 10.) Rey de Café (Castellano/Arnold) 118/6-1: 2X Gr. III winner is a good one, but post a concern.

DEL 8th: 44th DE OAKS (Gr. II), $500,000, 3 y.o. fillies, 8.5f, 3:54 p.m.

7.) DANCE AWAY CAPOTE (Bejarano/Motion) 119/8-1: Looking for breakthrough from late running miss that should get good target from heat-filled group.

6.) SIS CITY (Prado/Frankel) 122/5-2: Classy bay has work cut out among sharp assembly of pace-loving girls.

8.) ROUND POND (Elliott/Servis) 122/9-5: Hard to swallow odds-on number with pressure expected from the bell.

3.) PLEASANT CHIMES (no boy/M. Hennig) 115/8-1: Got to watch Hennig walk this nervous filly from 5 feet away before the Black Eyed Susan... He loves this Pleasant Tap daughter, and so do we...

FL 8th: NY DERBY, $150,000, 3 y.o. NY-breds, 8.5f, 4:19 p.m.

5.) TERGESTI (Davila, Jr./Schosberg) 10-1: Taking stab on Richie's Old Trieste stalker in pace-filled affair.

2.) NAUGHTY NEW YORKER (Chavez/Kelly) 3-1: Interesting that Chopper makes trip upstate...

9.) THUNDERPRINCE (Jara/McLaughlin) 15-1: Big price on speedy colt that looks tractable.

10.) BOLD DECISION (P. Rodriguez/LaFavers) 20-1: More value on on geldingthat may like the stretch-out.

BEL 8th: 48th BOWLING GREEN H. (Gr. II-T), $150,000, 3+, 11f, 4:45 p.m.

7.) SALIC LAW (Albertrani/Migliore) 115/5-1: Doubt the price holds up on rock solid pace-setting type.

10.) RELAXED GESTURE (Clement/Blanc) 117/5-1: Manhattan runner-up may not get set up he needs here.

2.) EXTERIOR (Frankel/Santos) 118/7-1: May not have cared for soft United Nations going.

3.) KING'S CORONATION (John Fisher/Caraballo) 113/30-1: Huge class hike, but this one can juice gimmicks.

5.) Navesink River (Pletcher/Velasquez or Decarlo) 116/10-1: May head to Delaware Sunday instead...

$150,000 LONG BRANCH BC (gr. III), 3-Year-olds, 8.5f, 5:28 p.m.

6.) SHARK (King, Jr./DWL) 12-1: Generous number on third off break Danzig colt stretching out to trip he should love: Missed considerable time on shelf.

4. FIRST WORD (Trujillo/Frankel) 4-1: Chester House-Juddmonte bay was respectable 4th in N. Dancer graded debut; is tactical.

7. GOLDEN MAN (Garcia/Walters) 7-2: Gelding another that did OK in graded debut when third to runaway Oratory in the Peter Pan.

8.) CHEKOV (Bravo/Biancone) 3-1: Possible public choice doesn't figure to get swift fractions up front for his off pace antics.

AP 9th: 42nd ROUND TABLE, $100,000, 3 y.o., 9f, 6:07 p.m.
As I've said before, doesn't Round Table, one of the 10 greatest horses of all-time and a personal favorite, deserve a graded stake in his honor?

2.) APACHE POINT (Bridgmohan/Kirby) 116/7-2: Locally kept, nice Royal Academy colt got career back underway in June and just missed Shamoan in the IA Derby.

8.) BOB O'S BOY (Sterling, Jr./Calhoun) 116/10-1: Grabbing attractive tab on 4/3-1-0 Gentleman red going turf to dirt for clever conditioner.

4.) DEVILMENT (Marquez, Jr./Stidham) 116/4-1: Sharp Pin Oak runner 4/2-2-0 at Chicago, 2/1-1-0 at distance.

7.) HIGH EXPECTATIONS (Campbell/Janks) 123/6-1: State bred is perfect 3X at AP and 2X at trip.
