Too bad really. The neighborhood east of Hollywood is gentrifying, though the part between the airport and the track remains a bit scary. I've never had any problems at Hollywood, but there are stories of poker players being followed home from the Casino and robbed or killed.

Hopefully this will help Churchill get the NYRA franchise, as they're very much the lesser of two evils vis a vis Magna.

Ideally someone should build a track in Palm Springs and move the Santa Anita dates there. Seems the only tracks that really draw at the gate are the resort tracks (Saratoga, Oaklawn, Del Mar, Monmouth.) Then they could race at SA in the spring and fall and keep Del Mar and Fairplex as is. Can't say I'm enthusiastic about moving the Hollywood dates to the OC (Los Aly).

Condolences to any Hollypark regulars.

If indeed BM Land runs the remaining meets, be prepared to eat and drink before you get to the track; no joke. Also be prepared to have the scum of the earth in your face all the time, at least during simulcasts. This is exactly the current situation at Bay Meadows. Things have deteriorated for the player there since The End Is Coming.

It's almost like there are certain tracks around the country that you can go to and have a great time. Betting on-line is so much better for alot of players and I'm one of them. Reading the new drf book and the big time players alot of them talked about how it's so great for them to stay at home and bet, then again their betting 1k up to 8k a race.

From 1938 until 1988 (the year I left California) there were hundreds of thousands of fans that attended the races in Inglewood, with pleasant experiences, though economic conditions worse than today.. For one individual or two who thinks or have experienced bad times with others who have bad intentions, should not make the races not fun for new fans or old. I remember seeing Fred Gwynn walk through the tunnel leading to the Century City exit all alone without fear of being molested. I think there are people that think the race track at Pimlico in Baltimore is in a bad area and the races should be moved. My reply is that these thoughts are for the wrong reasons. There were pirates in America at one time and they are still viewed as heros to some modern day people.

I think Fred could have walked through a tunnel just about anywhere in the world, without fear. Wasn't he like 6'7 and 275 lbs? He was Herman Munster wasn't he?

Yeah Fred played Herman; although he looked small that day I saw him, leaving before the 4th race. This was before he did Pet Semetary or My Cousin Vinny.
