View Full Version : The winning method is subjective not objective

You want to know why systems don't work? Its because systems are
based on objectivity. Count the number of points...highest point
score for the horse is the play... Statistics: the highest percentage
for this trainer is the play....
But try to figure this out. Someone in my family mentioned to me that
the #1 trader in the U.S. uses an EYEBALL TECHNIQUE: "THAT STOCK
JUST LOOKS GOOD".
Hard and fast rules don't work because each race is different from
any other race and there zillions of variables involved in the result
of a horserace.

Because racing not only has so many variables that go into deciding individual race outcomes, but also has overall performance patterns that hold up year after year (coupled with the fact that there's always a choice available as to whether to bet or pass any given race), players can win consistently utilizing any of a variety of different handicapping styles -- from the ultra-intuitive to the totally statistical. That's what allows the game to have such an enduring and widespread appeal (not to mention the pure beauty and excitement of the sport itself).

Racing is a tough game to beat largely because it is so predictable.

And the factors that "predict" are generally widely known and get, in a word, 'hammered'

The tough part then, is finding a solid method of prediction that is not widely known.

Which is why it pays to include a combination of fundamental factors in your handicapping, or (even better) to use that mix of factors to estimate a horse's true winning chances. That way, you don't have to keep trying to stay one step ahead of the public. If a horse you like gets overbet, you can either pass the race, or else switch to another horse or exotic combination which is offering value.

Afleet Alex by my figs was the only horse in the field (Preakness) that might run the last furlong in less than 12 seconds. How many Cappers noticed this and decided to play something else? I played something else. Live and hopefully learn.

In any book or other systems I use, I adjust it to allow 3 points (depending on how subjective I feel) for subjectivity

Hurrikane,
you and i have been around here too long. We've seen these questions asked and addressed about a million times. :D To the newbies they might be fresh subjects. That's why they invented "skimming" as an alternative to studying or scrutinizing everything. To me, the longer I'm here, the more it takes to get my full attention.

It's not PA's fault or the board's; it's just that we've seen all these opinions before -- many by the same people. Sometimes, tho, we get lucky and some new blood adds something fresh that hasn't been considered here. I find these postings by youknowwho as bland as you do, but if I was new to the game or had just joined the board it and wanted to join the conversation it might still see fresh.

honestly Andi,

If you were asking the question it might have meaning because I would expect you to offer your opinion. This would, in part, tell me who you are and what your beliefs are and allow me to assign value.

If you search all the threads I think you will find this guy has never offerd anything. He just makes up these questions.

I'm not sure why. The guy just irritates me.

You don't remember when you were 5 years old and your kid brother
or sister got all the attention. You can too if you post something
interesting here on PA. Remember Albert Einstein drove the teachers
nuts for asking too many questions. Asking the right questions is
the first MOST IMPORTANT STEP.

There are some systems that blend objectivity with subjectivity. And they work quite well.

Wrong again. You didn't read correctly. It's Quality and Quantity (as in the number of threads you start), that you DON't know the difference between.
But I can see how you got that, (and everything else) wrong.

You must have been neglected as a child (last week), and starting thread after thread is the only way you can get attention.
Some here, have acquiesced to your "innocent" manipulation.
Hope that keeps you happy and occupied.
I think if someone would just pour mollasses and feathers on your hands, it would keep you occupied in a constructive way.
