What does it mean when the race caller says that the jockey is "sitting chilly?"

I guess I should also ask what the implications of that are.

Thanks.

It means the jock is not doing anything but being a passenger. Not urging the horse in any way. You can usually infer from that, that the jock has a lot of horse under him.

that was a term given to, george the iceman wolfe, he would be sittin chilly on a horse studying and studying, waiting for that right moment to make his move, theyd say hed be sittin so still on a horse, hed look like he was frozen

At FL, it means the horse was standing in so much ice before the race, the jockey'sfeet are cold.

Tom,

29 years to the day, made my first bets at FL with Lawrence Voegel's book in one hand and luck in the other, won my first 23 of 24 exacta wagers.....Rudy Rincon was the oldest jockey even then.....hooked for good.......wonder what I was doing right then....................maybe sitting chilly?
