For the Freedom and Pro-Life crowd I'd like to lay some numbers on you.

One Billion dollars saves one Million Lives in Africa.

Five Billion Dollars invested in African medical issues will change the course of Human History.

Paul Houston AKA Bono, was interviewed on Fox the other night. He said that George Bush has the opportunity to change the world like no other Human Being In History. He praised what Bush has done to date, and went so far as to say that BUSH has already made his mark on history with his African Iniatives.

With that said, its hard to reconcile $400 Billion for a war to free people and save lives, when in fact 10% of that would probably save 10 Million Lives, and affect 100's of millions for generations to come.

Suff, there is a difference from a realist perspective, or you can call it a pessimist perspective if you want, but its the truth. Africa means nothing to us as a country, but the Middle East is one of the most strategically important areas in the world. Africa doesn't have oil and the Middle East does. Honestly, that's why I wish we didn't need oil, so we could treat the Middle East like Africa - ignore them and let them kill each other if they want to.

I agree with you ISBETS. I wouldn't give my empty Evian bottles to Africa.
Except for S.A. its a vast cesspool of disease. Just imagining being there
makes me itchy. But what to do with it? ps: I'm not talking about the
ARAB sector of Africa (Egypt-Morroco +) --- but Nigeria, Mali, Congo, Ethiopia.
Now money & debt relief is NEVER gonna work there. But Bono rocks on &
I will give a few bucks just because its great Rock.

While I applaud Bono's intentions, and the efforts of everyone donating their time today, the bottom line on this is that just throwing money into Africa will do little other than make dictators richer. The genocides will not suddenly stop with a influx of money. Africa is ruled ruthless butchers who will never, ever do thing one to help their people.

As a human being, I cannot understand how the world can sit by and watch what is going on and not be outraged enough to go in there and clean house.
The only two reasons I can come up with are: 1) bown people 2) no oil.

Sad commentry on a supposed civilized western world.

Bono won't to get the attention of world leaders with music. If he were wave a gallon of oil around his head while dancing naked with Hurrikane (LOL) he would get more attention from the "world leaders." (especcially Clinton!)

World leaders, Bush included, are not concerned with the welfare of people. We don't count on the world stage. Unless it's time to vote, they could care less what we thinking or what we do to eacch other.

Was Rowanda a big secret? Where was the civilized world?
Next time you get the urge to call any western world leader a great man, remeber that.

I'm sorry, I have have a hard time computing the following equation:

Terri Schiavo's single valuable life > One Million Lives.

I'm a realist , and the fact is that the USA is 25% of the entire African Aids budget. However, Germany and others have made commitments to increase thier share that will reduce the United states share to 1/8th.

They're lobbying Bush for more money I understand that someone might think 1/8th is fine. Or not. Depends where you come down on a whole host of issues.

I am simply putting the Iraq War expenditures in another context. Things may be the way they are and thats that., and anyone can make up thier own mind where you'd like to see your country on this issue.

Forgeting the value of life issue that was thrown around here like it weighed two pounds during the Schiavo case. Here's an 800 pound gorilla. If you value a single human life as you profess'd during the Schiavo episode, how can the words "Million Lives" not ring your bell?

Somebody had a show on about how Beatles and Stones were satanic/socialists, pointing specifically the the St. Pepper Album cover.
Personally, I think the walrus was Stalin! The Blue Meanies were the cops. Beatles blasted all traditional icon in their music and covers. (I used to have the original British baby butcher cover).

Suff, you'e way off base here. The two things are not remotely related.

Be a realist? Then comment on how the money we give to Africa goes to the dictators and not the people. Fact.
Throwing money at Africa will not save a million lives. Gonig in and taking out the dicators will allow the aid to get to where it is needed.

I say, if we are going to help, and I think we should, we first need to go in kill a few thousand mudering troops and their little dicatater leadrers. THEN we send in aid.

But jsut how much effect do you think a rock concert will have on G8?
Do you honestly believe ANY of them are wathcing tonight?

The world needs action, not music. Ask Kerry.

"I'm a realist , and the fact is that the USA is 25% of the entire African Aids budget. However, Germany and others have made commitments to increase thier share that will reduce the United states share to 1/8th."

Well, they sure can afford it. While WE have been spending billions fighting terrorsits and bringing demacracy and freedon to two Middle Eastern nations, driving out illegal murdering occupying groups and mad dictators out of power, giving freedom to millions of oppressed people, Germany and other euro-trash nations have been busy buying illegal oil from Iraq, fattening the coffers of SH (another great example of how money never gets past the bastards at the top) and tring to keep us from going in, becase they knew we would find out about their crimes.

Let's see, Germany........three words pretty much sum up what Germany is all about - Six million Jews.
Pardon me while I puke - if you are going around banging the drum for Germany, my lunch is not going to stay down.
