I cashed many a meaty mutuel with Juan "The Wizard" Serey, who used to claim 'em, doctor 'em up, and light up the tote board on a regular basis at Garden State and Monmouth. I'll never forget walking into his barn one day and finding all the stall doors - top and bottom - closed tight. This was in April. He had drilled peep holes in the top doors so he could look in on the horses. Now, why in the heck would any good horseman do that? I firmly believe it was to prevent prying eyes from checking out the horses...and his employees were all family members, most of whom couldn't speak a word of English and were all loyal to Uncle Juan. He got his license taken away for "financial obligations," but I'll bet he had something cookin' in that barn...and not hamburgers or hot dogs!
