Throughout my years in racing the topic of handicapping as a way to
get out of the rat race has come up. I will list a few quote from people.
Dr. Howard Sartin : "The misery of work" (drew a laugh from audience)
Dick Mitchell: : Mentioned how his boss would be in control of his
mood on his regular job.
Dick Schmidt: "Coworkers crying because they were going to get layoff"
Well I had handcapping as a backup so I had nothing to worry about.
A new book out on handicapping "Six Secrets of Succesful Bettors "by
Scantoni mentions a professional horseplayer in there who claims
"I have more job security than some of these degreed professionals work
ing for these accounting firms(not exact quote)".
For me yes I always thought of handicapping is a way out of the rat
race of the hard real world. Lets face it. Its hard making a buck in the
real world and chances are when you do make it , you will be
doing some type of work you hate.
