Donnie, I either missed your reply or perhaps you did not see my post. I am still curious as to why a connected guy plays so little. Here is your and my posts again.

Donnie, Why Do You Play So Few Times?

I would wager that the reason most data providers do the per/card sell is to pick up the little guys. Great. But if that product is inferior, no matter what you pay, it's not worth the money. If you can make it work for you, then the value is increased in your eyes. I make HTR work for me. I play maybe 9 or 10 times a month. I have never felt that HTR is a con. If you met the man behind it, you would definitely feel different. And for HDW and their partners to make a buck....well it is a business you know. Some people just like charities.[END QUOTE]

Donnie, Why do you play so few times a month?

If you are somehow connected to HTR and have access to Ken Massas, why aren't you playing several tracks a day?

Am I missing something?

I can't really answer for Donnie, but I guess it would be because he has a couple of kids, wife and a day job...

I have been an HTR subscriber for a few years now...am single and find myself pretty busy as well...I might only play twice a week at most...

Same here -- married, a child, a full-time job. Never any time to play on the weekends except for the occaisional foray to the track But HTR enables me to bet intelligently without having to spend hours a day in research, etc.

I read the post below by Donnie and assumed he worked for HTR/Massa or was somehow connected to HTR software development.

In another post he offered to give private lessons for a fee on the days prior to the seminar.

Anyway, it struck me odd that someone who was so involved with handicapping software would not be playing every day.

posted by Donnie@HTR:"I would like to invite everyone who reads this board to come out to Las Vegas for Ken Massa's seminar in July being held at the Gold Coast Casino. The basic info can be found here: http://www.homebased2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4331

We'd love to have you out...and no, no one is getting rich off this seminar. Just genuine horseplayers sharing genuine concepts and thoughts and processes. Well worth the minor fee being charged. And you don't have to be an HTR subscriber to attend and participate!

BOL to all!"

It Could Just Be Me, when I read that post I get the impression that Donnie represents HTR/Massa. Maybe I need to work on my reading comprehension. :)

The "@HTR" label was attached a couple of years ago when we were having our "Interboard Handicapping Contest," which pitted message board vs. message board.

Those guys (Donnie and GR1) represented the HTR board, but have never requested to have the "@HTR" label removed from their user name here on PaceAdvantage.Com. It doesn't necessarily mean they officially represent the product.

Perhaps this is where some of the confusion originates?

Also, Donnie is giving lessons at the HTR seminar -- in Excel and Access usage with the software.
This is the first HTR seminar I'm attending and I'm looking forward to it. Ken has some new theories on form cycles he's going to present and introduce into HTR and I'm curious as to what he has up his sleeve.

I am amazed at how good Many measures are given how unscientific the raw data. Is better raw data any closer to happening? Its 2005 and still chart callers. But thats what happens when there's a monopoly. I think there's a great case for challenging Equibase on price rigging (plus more). Controlling
the Data Source + its Distribution stiffles competition & thats anti-trust. Again,
horseplayers DO NOT have an effective business lobby.

Hey Kreed, Are you going to the HTR seminar in Vegas?

Should be interesting. Sorry I am going to miss.

I'll take a stab at clarifying this.

Donnie is a paying customer of HTR, just like everybody else. To my knowledge, he is not involved in designing or programming HTR in any way. His role comes about because of HTR's comma delimited output file, which contains many of the value added numbers Ken makes. Donnie's day job is teaching Access, among other programs, and this resulted in a marriage made in heaven. Donnie imports the comma delimited files from HTR into Access and goes to work designing queries, reports and a whole panoply of bells and whistles (no half panoplies for Donnie!).

He has very generously shared a lot of what he has done for himself with other HTR users and has given an Access seminar for HTR users during Ken's annual seminar for a number of years. I've sat through a couple of them and he has opened up Access/HTR to a lot of people who might otherwise be too intimidated to use Access. When they were at the Stardust, there was no fee at all for any of this; now they just offset expenses. He also does custom work, for a fee, for those who don't have the time and/or the inclination to fiddle with designing Access objects on their own. I'm guessing the private lessons are for Access training and using Access with HTR, since that is the unofficial role Donnie has fallen into in the HTR community. He is not the resident HTR handicapping guru - I wouldn't relish trying to adopt that mantle for a group of handicappers every bit as tough and critical as those on this board.

As I am the one that asked the original question so I will thank you for taking the time to respond to my question to Donnie.

If he has a full-time job that certainly explains why he doesn't play more often.

As I said in an earlier post, I thought perhaps he was an employee/programmer for HTR.

I'm sure HTR is a great product but I am going to hold off getting any software till I find out if the secret "x13" system becomes available.
