Was just going through my stable mail .. and was late in getting the notice for Is It True Mex running on Saturday .. Hollywood - Race 4 - June 11 .. however, I am deeply saddened after seeing the chart .. as he's listed as having "broke down."

I'm afraid to ask .. but I'm wondering if anyone knows his status???? He was such an awesome little sprinter on turf out there in California.

Observer, I love Is It True Mex, we've had a long and storied ride together. He's one of those guys who gives it all almost every time out. I saw the race where he supposedly broke down, and it looked like he took a really bad step, but he's raced since then I believe, because that was going down the hill and I swear I saw him race at Hollywood Park in what else a turf sprint. He's 9 years old now, I think. He's a good hard knocking claimer.

Edit, I just got the gyst of your post and it didn't register on the first read through. I sure hope he's allright.

He was a hard knocker. I think he may have been Barocio's whole stable.

I have followed that horse for a couple of seasons now. It was a hard one to watch when he broke down. I have made some decent money on that guy. He was one of only a couple on my stable mail list. He was 11-1 in that race and I bet him. 50 bucks in a race on that horse was never a bad a bet. He was always a horse you could count on to run as hard as possible. Always in the mix at the line. He took a pretty bad step and watching him veer off from the rail and dump the rider was pretty gut wrenching. A true hard knocker who always tried hard. I quit for the day after that one. Sucks!

How Cliche,

Saying thank you doesn't seem appropriate under this topic, especially considering the outcome .. but I appreciate you looking into this.

Can I ask where you were able to track down that info???

I remember a few years ago .. Mex went on a nice little win-streak .. he won his first 5 starts when switched to turf .. that's when I first found out about him .. somewhere during that streak .. and I developed a special appreciation for him .. he was just so much fun to watch .. always tried hard .. usually was right there .. a real hard-knocking horse.

This is very sad news.

That was indeed a game horse. It's always sad when these great athletes don't make it into their much deserved retirement on a nice green pasture. Definitely sad news...

'Mex started his career up at GGF/BM in N.Cal. Islander too, I think, at least his US stint.
