I hope no one was snickering when Tim Ritchey mentioned when being interviewed he intends to try Afleet Alex on the turf at some point.

Just watching his action, he's got that tremendous acceleration and "high gear" that it takes to be an outstanding turf horse.

And in case you're interested, his sire, Northern Afleet, is even more effective (at least to this point in his stud career) with turf runners than dirt runners.

Northern Afleet's offspring have started 145 times on the turf with 28 wins...that's an excellent 19% and they have hit the board on turf 51% of the time.

My dear friend, Ron Waranch, originally bought Northern Afleet for about $70,000, then raced him (and won a graded stakes with him). He sold him for stud purposes, but retained a number of shares for himself.

He's by Afleet out of a Nureyev mare, so the dam of this sire is probably influencing the offspring's fondness for turf.
