What I can't get over is how poorly they've been hitting. The pitching imploding I can understand, but that team should be racking up the runs.

As of today, Boston is a game up in the wild card race. The central doesn't look especially tough to me, other than getting to play Kansas City more than any other team does. But we get Tampa! :D

No offense, but the Yankees pitching staff doesn't actually strike fear into the hearts of batters, so Bal and Bos get to feast off them -- and the Double A pitchers in Tampa. Their "ace" gave up seven runs in three innings -- against the D-Rays!

I'll take my chances with Min and the White Sox.

Valuist

The perception that the East is far better than the Central simply isn't true anymore. It was true for years but not anymore. CJ, your O's are fun to watch because they can pile up runs but teams that rely on outslugging other teams tend to hit the skids as the season wears on. Ryan has been a great surprise closing out games but the starting pitching has some real issues: Ponson with a 5 plus ERA and the league hitting .313 against him, Cabrera a 5 plus ERA. Chen started out great but he's 1-3 in the past month. Bedard, another big surprise has been out now for awhile. You can only win so many 11-9 games. I know the East backers will say Garland is a fluke but he's always had great potential; he's finally learned how to pitch. BTW, right now Cleveland is ahead of the Yankees in the wild card race.

Was watching the Yankee-Met game today. A quick look at the Yankee line-up reveals that they HAVE been hitting. Heck, for all the non-Yankee talk, A-Rod has 60-some RBI's, and it's not even the end of JUNE. It's their pitching that has been in the proverbial tubes. They need steady starting pitching, and there might be a few quality guys out there on the block right now.

OTM Al
06-25-2005, 11:07 PM
Its not just the pitching, though that may be the root of everything. Their play has just been awful and their hitting, though it looks good on the surface, has continually slipped into a very poor approach where they seem to be constantly pressing, rather than wearing down opposing pithers as they had done in years past. Frankly, like the team though I do, their games are extremely difficult to watch because in general it has just been plain bad baseball.

No shizzle for Jeter? As much as I hate the Yankees, I'll admit that NOBODY else can match his instincts on the field. Torre? There's one question that keeps him in: Who else is out there? Answer: Nobody. And you can't pin all the blame on Johnson. He's not the big, dominating hurler we know, but he IS 7-5. At last check, that was still pretty respectable.

I missed a big trip this weekend. Friends left friday for Baltimore.

Sox 7-2 winners tonight, dropped the birds to third. Yanks hung on 5-4 to take over 2nd. Yanks 6 in a row and coming to the Fens after the break.

TV said Boston Fans took over Camden yards today. Another friend of ours is a Jockeys agent at Penn National, and hour north. He's got 14 in tommorrow night!. 2 jocks, 7 mounts a piece. Tommorrow my crew is sox/baltimore/camden yards by day, Winners circle at Penn National by night.

Went to the Yankee game yesterday. Dad really hit the nail right on the head with this one...

"If you have a $200 million payroll, why do you need a kid pitching (May), a kid at second base (Cano), and a kid in center (Cabrera)?"

The Yanks have big problems in the second half. They're only a few back, but all the two teams in front of them need is a winning streak to set the Yanks back a month. Aside from that, two starting pitchers are hurt, as well as their set-up man. Am I alone in not liking the Bronx Bombers's chances to make the playoffs?

cj
07-15-2005, 04:43 PM
I don't think there is any doubt whatsoever who the MVP of that team is. If the team took a vote, it would probably be unanimous. The guy is THE leader of the team, he never misses a game, and he drives in the runs. Brian Roberts is having a great year, but Tejada is the guy driving the O's. If only he could pitch every fifth day too...

36-18 at Home. Best in the AL. We're making it hard work for everybody.

Renetria. 2003 & 2004 NL gold Glove winner has 23 errors. Getting eaten up in that spot. Another example of the AL dominance. They're 2 HOF'rs eaither way, but Clemens and Pedro go NL and live long. Randy Jonhson comes Al from NL and is an also ran. Renetria overwhelmed with smash ball. his production numbers are low. This guy gets pitch's. They pitch him down the middle of the plate to avoid the rest of the Red Sox Lineup.
When Renetrai is producing, the Red Sox are a tough tough Lineup. But he's been very inconsistent. Big hit last night. Winning RBI the 10th. But he was 0 for 5 , with 2 errors. (22 & 23).

Doesn't matter. We'll defend. As the Favorite.

I'm just glad the Mets didn't do anything stupid at the trading deadline (unlike last year). The wild card is possible, but Beltran has to start performing at a higher level.
