I was talking with this trainer at KEE one time. He was telling me this story of a jock, no names, that was riding for him. This guy only puts out about a doz a year and is serious every time.

The jock practically walked the horse around the track. Turned out the jock wasn't taking any chancesas he was riding in the Derby in 3 weeks for the first time. He apparently didn't win one race before hand (or the derby for that matter)

next time the horse came out he won at 38-1 odds. Curious if anyone has done a study of jocks aiming for big races.

Just so I can follow this thread- how big a race are you talking about? Graded stakes?

Jeezus, I thought this was about the second winningest jockey in history taking a bad spill. And your thinking about handicapping clues? Lighten up. Hope he`s OK.

Any news? I know he took off his mounts, this was announced almost immediately.

He's out for two months, broken collarbone.

Ken,

yes, even more so career races. Triple crown/Breeders Cup. Maybe a few other very high profile races.

Back in the day when I played angles, the injured jockey angle was quite successfull. First race the jock comes back he will ride harder than usual to show everybody he is resilient. Especially juicy was the rare time when the jock came back from injury to ride the very horse that caused the fall- bet that one for sure. It was 100%.

Naturally, this did not apply when the horse did not cause the injury but was a victim of other horses.
