Aloha,
Do you database guys find that a positive ROI can be made....
by combining just the jockey and the trainer?
just checking back a 10 day span at CD I have seen a profitable angle(short term probably)
but can you do it over a span of a year or more?

Absolutely. Take Ned Allard/Harry Vega, whom I mentioned on the other thread. Stats are for NY/NJ/PHA/MD/DEL/VA from 01/01/2002 - Present
Allard / All Riders (Starts Wins Place $2ROI)
All races 794 166 116 $1.71
Sprints 452 93 72 $1.69
Routes 342 73 44 $1.75
Allard / Vega
All races 167 50 19 $2.52
Sprints 72 20 8 $2.28
Routes 95 30 11 $2.70
Pletcher/JohnV show a $2.01 ROI for over 1000 races, but $2.30 on turf from 282 races. Too many possibilities, many better than these.
Even more instructive might be knowing which riders never win for certain barns.
