LDK,
You might want to check with Nathan the author of the Equisim software... I believe he had a converter program... But I dont remember if it was Single file to Multi-file... It may have been Multi to Single. (Not Sure...)

Why do you want to convert it? Are there issues with Foxpro and maximum record size?

There is a limit in Fox Pro of 256 fields for each table.

BRISNET.COM HAS A FREE UTILITY CALLED ITF. YOU CREATE A FILE TEMPLATE FOR THE FILE FORMAT YOU NEED. HAD SAME PROBLEM WITH ACCESS. GOOD LUCK.

Dude,
Thanks for the info on ITF. It's a little crude but it looks like it should work.

Infotran works ok, but I suggest you first import into Excel before Accesss. I keep getting "extra" fields on some lines that would screw up your importing into Acces. With Excel, you can edit them out. Not sure if if the program of the BRIS files. BRIS data leaves a lot to be desired. I finally gave up trying to build any meaningful database from it.

What's wrong with the data? Or is it the format of the data?

I'm also a Foxpro user working on the exact same problem. Email me if you want to mutually share some ideas and/or the workload.

I've have written a converter in visual basic. I could send it to all who are intersted for a nominal fee. Send me a message here and I'll reply.

They vary how they report various fields, like trainer names, race classes, etc. Some data filed are missing data, etc. If you build a db and then run querry's, you might not get all the relevant data. The big thing i hate is thtat they put the claimed symbol in the conditions - C-25,000 - so when you sort by class, you have go in and clean up the fileds. Too much work.

I created Infotran templates to import the pre-2000 bris single files and convert them to multi. I use these files on a limited basis. The process is a little labor intensive. I just did some preliminary testing and it looks like they are working okay. Created the templates in Excel and then cut and pasted them into notepad. Still need to do more QC.
As far as the quality of data? I unzipped one the older archive files and there was only one race present. The corresponding chart file shows 11 races. I sent the file to BRIS to see what they will do.

A problem I have with Infotran is that it sometimes duplicates the last filed on a line - when you try to import into Access, it screws up the process. I have to open thje Infotran output file in Excel so I can see where the extra field are and delte them, then fo the import to Access.
I have a program called Track Tout Online TSN File reader that reds TSN or BRIS single files and creates a comma delimited file of the data that can be improted directly ine Excel of Access. I got it free on the web, but cannot find it anymore.

Alright. How much are you will to pay for a program to convert a BRIS single file to a mulitple data file format?
