There was a balance of guests. The host led in with the worst of initial testing and made it sound the worst he could for the regular lib listeners.
Beyers mentioned the mid-seventies.
There is a correlation btween the push for early speed and less starts per year, and drugs probably do play into that. The combination of the 3 are negatively impacting racing; but to blanketly blame all good trainer % on drugs is inaccurate. Gil had the horses' palates fixed and won a lot.
I am still wondering if a better use for Beyer's numbers is not to detect performing-enhanced drugged horses.
It was a good listen.
When I emailed in responsed to an NPR program on racehorse breakdowns I got no response.
