I was amazed to learn of the variety of propostion bets available for the Derby. Naturally, I didn't learn of them beforehand, not that it would have made a difference.
Consider these props of which a bettor at another site availed himself:
Noble Causeway over Sun King
Giacomo over Andromeda's Hero
Giacomo over Going Wild
Don't Get Mad over Spanish Chestnut
Giacomo over Buzzard's Bay
High Fly over Bandini
And get this:
Will a horse pay over 11.90 to show? Y or N
Will Giacomo hit the board (top 3)? For 14/1 odds
The above are eight winning bets on one race, none of which required picking a winner and only one requiring a top-3 finish.
With the plethora of prop bets springing up on the web (read: offshore books), traditional horseplayers may well be advised to broaden their wagering horizons.
