Anybody got any theory as to what the hell Baffert is up to? I don't buy the line that Danthebluegrassman was working so well that they decided to enter him. I think he is trying to manipulate the pace or something..... Anybody got a theory?

I agree.
First, he keeps another horse out. Second, He has a tactical advantage. If you look at War Emblem Ill. Derby, he got the good BRIS Late Pace. In fact, off that figure, W.E. has the highest ranked LP figure in the Derby Field. We have a report that ranks BRIS early pace, middle pace, late pace.Check it out below:

IF Baffert owner's are working together, using DTBGM too control the race is a huge tactical advantage.

I happen to like War Emblem, so I"m not about to poo-poo him.
Part of the late-pace, last fraction scenario for his ILL Derby races is that the stretch at SPT is about 3/8m long.
Hence, the fig is from a segment of the race that is run on a straight-path.

Forgot to mention that War Emblem fits one of my favorite profiles:
A front-runner that closes!

BRISnet defines the Late Pace (LP) as "how fast the horse ran from 2nd call to finish". For 1 1/8 mile race the second call is the 3/4 mile (6f). So the Late Pace figure is a measure of the last 3f in a 9f race. On the 7f sportsman oval that would include the far turn, I think. The stretch is about 2.2f.
Anyway, I am on the War Emblem band wagon.
War Emblem, Saarland, Buddha, not necessarily in that order.
Good Luck, FH

Don't know what to do with this pig. The tougue tie thread was started because I read Baffert was using one on WE in training. I didn't know what it would do to his type, but sounds like it may help. I have no idea if he was wearing one in Ill Derby. I don't think Baffert is stupid, and it's not like they claimed this horse. Took a couple of days to put the deal together. So did Baffert see something he thought he could improve or is just spending OPM. Then Dan appears faster than a white tiger on a Las Vegas stage, so something is up. I don't know what, but it's apparent to me that he wants to control the pace. Dunno. Still trying to figure it out.

Genius observation, eh? Should have put the last piece together when Dan was scratched. Was in there for some kind of insurance that was no longer needed. Figured all this stuff out, and never bothered to bet him. As hard as I thought about it, he should have been my key.
