My Dad played Closing Argument W/P
I had him 15-1.
That's as close as I got unless you want to talk about the horses that ran 2nd at Pha today.

I'm backfitting here, But I have been advising several people the last 2 days to put $2 on everybody over 20-1 including the KY Derby bettor in the family, my mom-in-law. I did not bet and that was my early advice on PA. :D
Chalk: any bet not lost is a bet won! You did great! Picking it as an "anybody race" was exactly the right call!

I had him at 24-1 on my line (and that mostly due to Mike Smith), but didn't get anything down on him, even though he was overlaid by over a 2 to 1 margin.

Interesting that the "slow" Santa Anita Derby produced the winner and 3 of the top 6.

My girlfriend and her mom took him across the board !?!? The liked his name...Alex ran a very good race. The top two will never win anything major again. S$%%^ happens
I guess its another year without a triple crown winner.

I think Beyer in the chat tuesday night really ripped into that SoCal bunch. Saying none of them could even run a 100 Beyer.

What a sham race. I mean I kinda though Bellamy wouldn't fire, a 120 beyer last out. And then Andy Beyer says in his chat that if anything it should be more. Whateva. BEllamy never gets another 120 I don't think.
I thought Alex might be there, but GIACOMO to win . . . you gotta be jokin.
Giacomo . . .will be lucky to win another G3.
Interesting . . .the last 6 or 7 horses came from the Blue Grass. The top from out West.

What do you think of the Hammer's contention that the suicidal fractions posted by the rabbit Spanish Chestnut caused the whole mess?

They said as much when they were loading.....SC was a Rabbit....something frequently done in Europe.
Many thought if BR or AA could'nt sustain the pace....A closer woud win... Just not those two.

4 out of the top 6 spots in Kentucky Derby including the winner not bad for coming from the SA Derby with "CLASS B RACING".

The irony of it was that the rabbit was supposed to set it up for Bandini and wound up finishing ahead of him. When the pace collapses as it did, anything can happen, and I'm inclined to agree with those who think that Spanish Chestnut's presence in the race is ultimately what caused the chaos at the finish.

I don't know about Closing Argument, but I think Giacomo is a lot better at these classic distances than people realize. He was rated at 122 pounds on the Experimental Free Handicap. So the horse showed some good form last year. The highweight was 126. So to be within 4 pounds is not too bad.
His sire is Holy Bull. Holy Bull was a great horse. He could definately stay the classic distances.
Giacomo may not to as well in the Preakness, but I think he'd do well in the 12 furlong Belmont Stakes.
Just my two cents. I didn't bet him. I bet Afleet.
In retrospect Giacomo seems legit.
I watched the replay of the Bluegrass and wasn't impressed by Bandini. I had doubts that Bellamy could repeat his big 9 furlong Wood performance in the Derby.
Afleet ran a good Ark, but I was disappointed Andromeda didn't run better.
Who knew the SA Derby would be such an important race?

You will remember the SA derby was not 1 horse winning by 10-17 lengths- it was very competitive and maybe some SA Derby horses got experience racing close together. This KY Derby there seemed to be a number of leaders running within inches beside each other. Maybe the bigshot beyers winners did not handle a barfight as well as those CA horses! Or maybe the fact that the SA Derby track speed was close the a middle speed- just like today's Derby was.
The moron announcers on TV said the track was lightning fast- what a bunch of BS! The leaders who outran the track speed paid for it later- but the KY Derby has been won lately by "cheap" horses who came from a little ways back. The track looked dry and dusty on tv but was a very normal 49.4 just like last year. That is off the pace speed. Voodoo or not it proved out this year as expected. 20 horses in an "anybody race" won by one of the 14 horses that were over 20-1 odds does not surprise me. Neither does the winner coming from them middle of the gates. You just have to bet all longshots or none. I bet none.

Everyone looks at BRs 120 and says wow, that was a fast race. But before that, was he not just another "normal 3yo? He hadnt had any freakish races. IMO, he also didnt have a foundation to win the derby. Only 2 starts as a 3yo.

Careful, I remember they were saying similar stuff about Charismatic and Real Quiet after they won the Derby. We all know how close these two came to pulling off the Triple Crown. Don't be so quick to dismiss....

I for one am pleased as all get out that Bellamy Road flopped so heavily. I never believed in him. Yes he earned huge #'s, but the one time he was previously looked in the eye by a quality horse, Consolidator, he folded in the Lane's End Breeders' Futurity. That speaks volumes to me.
He's War Emblem all over. Phony as they get. I dislike runners like him because they aren't determined or generous, but if they have everything go their own way they're faster than anyone.
He was looking like an Armani, but he folded like a plain brown suit.

I didn't see anyone post on the HSH board that they had him. It's possible that someone constructed a "system" that put him on top.
In standard HSH Giacomo shows up the best in several columns on the Form 2 screen which is a measure of form/workouts but that's all I could see. Afleet Alex was second best on this same screen.
Just one of those races I guess.
