I'm looking for:

Dr.Z's Beat The Racetrack

The book and/or computer (hand held) for sale or trade.

here is another...

It's also available thru Amazon at $114.75.

Note: You have to search by author... the title search finds nothing.

Saw that the EBay auction ended at $87.99. Would have been slightly cheaper to buy it putright for the $75 listed on ABE.

Still, pretty close.

Guess the public got it right again, huh?

Gee, at that price I'll have to dig mine out and put it up on ebay.

ADave,

Actually, there is a better alternative. Put it up on Half.Com (an ebay subsidiary).

It allows you to be a book seller just like any store listed on ABE or Amazon. (We sell books & CDs all the time on Half & Amazon.)

They take a small commission (really small) and manage your inventory for you as well.

An old friend who passed away last year, gave me all his handicapping books, this book you are talking about was one of them. I donated all the books to my little public library!
Reminds me of when my mom threw away all my old Superman comic books! <SIGH>:o

I will look in the basement- if I still have mine, you are welcome to it no charge.
I will post Sunday if I find it.

$114 is a lot of money to pay for a book!

UK writer Nick Mordin has written a new book "Winning Without Thinking - A Guide to Horse Race Betting Systems". The book is mainly on racing in the UK but would be an interesting read for anyone who is interested in racing in general.

More pertinently, the book has an appendix which includes an explanation of Dr. Z's system as well as some of the seminal papers written on horse racing:

- Kelly's original paper "A New Interpretation of Information Rate", from which came the famous Kelly Criterion.

- Bolton & Chapman's "Searching for Positive Returns at the Track: A Multinominal Logit Model for Handicapping Horse Races"

- Chapman's "Still Searching for Positive Returns at the Track: Empirical Results from 2000 Hong Kong Races"

- William Benter's "Computer Based Horse Racing Handicapping and Wagering Systems"

The last three papers originally appeared in "Efficiency of Racetrack Betting Markets" and are required reading for anyone interested in developing systems.

Both Dr. Z's book and "Efficiency of Racetrack Betting Markets" are very hard to get so it might be easier to get Mordin's book instead. You can order the book at:

Is it impolite to quote yourself?
Oh well, I will anyway.
I haven't found the book yet, but there is another stack of plastic storage boxes in a corner and I will try to get to it this weekend.
Offer still open for the Dr. Z book if it is in there.
