Looking at the PPs, the thing about Bellamy Rd is that although he got a HUGE figure, he's never beaten anyone except Survivalist and Scrappy T. Never any pace pressure either.

I read this article a week or so ago, and I agree 100% with the authors “common sense” approach to reviewing Bellamy Road’s Derby credentials and potential to win.

IMO he is without question the horse to beat. In a very large field I would rather have a horse that’s on (or very near) the lead. Some will try to run with him and be exhausted after a mile. The tiring horses will play havoc with those trying to weave through traffic to improve their position. Closers need clear running to maintain momentum in order to gain position. When they’re steadied or rapidly changing direction, momentum is lost and very difficult to regain in a short amount of time. In the meantime, the leader (my thinking Bellamy Road) will continue to pull away to victory. I’m not sure what his margin of victory will be. It will probably depend on how fast the early fractions are, but if he’s allowed to cruise to a 1.11 (or slower) 3/4's, I believe he will have a substantial lead at the 1/4 pole. (This is all based of course on whether the track condition is listed as fast).

I personally would love to see the performance of another great horse in the Derby.

Best of Luck in the Derby!

I don't think he's Balto Star though. If BR wins, he either wires or comes damn close.

Apologies for being an old cynic but isn't this going to be a bit like watching Marion Jones win the Sydney Olympics 100m?

Maybe so .. .I thought he would run a little better than 7th or 8th.
