People have accused me of this forum of being a non-bettor.
That's fine if you believe that. But consider this. I heard that
Howard Sartin was a $2 dollar bettor. Even Michael Pizzolla
who was a devoted follower of the Sartin Methodology, I heard
rumors he was not a heavy bettor too. Jay Bridges, who passed
away years ago, was a friend of mine. Rumor was that he only
researched handicapping software and didnt bet much. I will never
know really how much these well known handicappers bet. No wonder
when Mark Cramer gave classes on handicapping he would refer to
the amount he wagered as "2 units" "3units" etc.

Not sure about Sartin, but to my knowledge, Pizzolla is a very big bettor.

Howard was not a big bettor. I absolutely know that for an absolute fact ..
He cashed lots of tickets and did ok at the windows. One of the nicest
human beings on the planet.

Where on Earth did you hear that Michael Pizzolla is not a big bettor? If that guy makes even 1% ROI he is going to make a lot of money. When he gets into a race, he bets probably in the $500-800 range. Is that big?

Now Sartin, I couldn't tell you either way.

I am still owed for my "follow up" subscription....they folded...(I just recently found out about PIRCO's folding on this forum)

crooks? maybee...

spoke to Doc Sartin once by phone...seemed nice...

but as Dick Schmidt posted "why kick a sick old man"?

I did learn a lot from his stuff...like... it is the horse!!!

not the jock (trainer, yes) not the weight and other stuff

don't bet the favorite...pick what works in your handicapping....

If you are a losing bettor why bet more than two bucks?

I think there’s an old post on here somewhere (by Schmidt, maybe?) mentioning that the “Doc” would sometimes buy a ticket on everything and then show just the winning ticket after the race – or something like that.

As to the original question of whether he was a $2 bettor my guess would be yes but he probably often had $20 or better invested to “buy the field” so that he would have a winning ticket for “advertising” purposes. As easy as it is to bend a mind at the racetrack, that was probably a really good ploy on his part. The “Doc” was smooooth.
