Aidan O'Brien and Kieren Fallon won the English 2000 Guineas (1m Turf) at Newmarket today with unbeaten 3yo colt, Footstepsinthesand (http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=check&search_bar=horse&h=Footstepsinthesand&g=4&inbred=Standard&x2=n). Is this a first classic success for Giants Causeway (http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=horse&search_bar=horse&h=GIANTS+CAUSEWAY&g=4)'s progeny?

Best Wishes,

John

I don't know if that was retorical or if you were asking if that was his progeny's first win in a Classic?

Presumably, Shamardal had a successful 2yo season.

chrisg,

You are correct that Shamardal (http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=check&search_bar=horse&h=Shamardal&g=4&inbred=Standard&x2=n) provided Giants Causeway (http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=horse&search_bar=horse&h=GIANTS+CAUSEWAY&g=4)'s first Group 1 success but this is definitely the first classic win by one of his progeny.

On a related note, Aidan O'Brien and Kieren Fallon completed a classic double by winning the English 1000 Guineas (1m Turf, Fillies) at Newmarket today with 3yo filly, Virginia Waters (http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=horse&search_bar=horse&g=4&h=VIRGINIA+WATERS2). What a way to start a new partnership! Incidentally, it was almost a second classic success for Giants Causeway (http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=horse&search_bar=horse&h=GIANTS+CAUSEWAY&g=4)'s progeny in two days as Maids Causeway (http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=check&search_bar=horse&h=Maids+Causeway&g=4&inbred=Standard&x2=n) finished second in that race!

How does this reflect on Noble Causeway (http://www.pedigreequery.com/index.php?query_type=check&search_bar=horse&h=Noble+Causeway&g=4&inbred=Standard&x2=n)'s chances next weekend?

Best Wishes,

John

Breeding and running style cause me to include Noble Causeway as a Derby contender. If the horse can peak (he has the right trainer) maybe..........

GC offspring have yet to win a classic. Classic = 10+ furlongs. If he wins "The Darby" then you'll have something. If you're talking a classic race [tradition etc.] then maybe. 8f [2000 Guineas] is a stroll in the park.

BTW: That wasn't exactly a stellar field he beat. Two 100-1 shots ran 2nd/3rd.
