A Storm Cat filly who won the BC Juv. Way too valuable as a broodmare, nothing she would do on the racetrack would increase her value, I'm not surprised.

They'd be fools not to, its a million dollar plus baby waiting to be born

Thats great.

Maybe in 10 years mountaineer will be running 1F 1yo races, and if a horse even makes it to 3yo he can try his luck a a 4F "endurance" race.

All this early breeding/retirement does is create weak feeble horses.

Funny and sad at the same time. In the week leading up to the SA Derby, Santa Anita saturated ESPN/Adelphia in my area with commercials trying to get fans to come out and watch the SA Derby in person. Their hook? The commercial kept repeating the phrase "She's the best filly to have ever raced!"

Jeff, I think there was a continuation to that sentance:

"She's the best filly to have ever raced........ to the breeding shed."

Sheesh! Maybe they should get sued as well! :D She didn't even last longer on the track than Ruffian and Go For Wand! :( Although in perspective, it's good that she's lived to see her 'retirement', but still not sure not so sure I'm glad to see her go to any breeding shed. Maybe I'm glad I can't afford to buy horses. If they fall apart this soon and this easily, that's too risky, and too huge a bet for me.

Perhaps if your day job goes belly up for some reason, you could become a powerhouse trainer, or at least an advisor to horsemen.

Sweet Catomine--Go For Wand--Ruffian (may the last two RIP)

Azeri--female horse of the century?

Nobody should ever mention Sweet Catomine in the same breath with true greats like Ruffian, Personal Ensign and Lady's Secret.

D. Wayne would NOT make a good vet. Doesn't take much to realize a trainer who WASTES good stock and does not listen to them when they are telling him in many ways :IT IS TIME TO BACK OFF.The image of Lady's Secret bolting to the outside fence and all of those breakdowns are things I DID NOT MAKE UP. This one is know for breaking down more than this share. That is simple fact not opinion.

Total, unsubstantiated baloney. DWL has had a LOT more stock than other trainers, so it would APPEAR he has more than his share of breakdowns, but I will bet you that if you can come up with cold hard statistics, DWL will not be any worse than any other top trainer out there.

And this will count all those that break down AWAY from the races, like in the morning workouts....the ones you DON'T HEAR ABOUT....

I love when people can state stuff with certainty when there are no facts to back up their negative criticisms.

Point me to your source that states DWL breaks down more than his share.

After all the hype that this filly got after her bad race!,I dont blame them, She would forever be the filly that cheated thousands out of money..Not her fault. The fault lies with the management of this filly, Granted she done very well for these connections, The thing is is that didnt know "How to read her".Another sad thing is Im sure the trainer knew but was "afraid" to disclose his findings, We may also have a owner who refused to listen,Commenting on your DWL wasting horses..My friend he isnt the only one to do this, These guys that have have a large stable have a even larger stable waiting to come in from the farm,These horses are trained in numbers going out in sets of 6 or 7 at a time,All horses are individuals and many fall by the way side if not given that indiviual attention. Some horses take time to mature and a trainer with a lot of horses wont do that, If they do its off to the farm and out of sight out of mind.Takes a good trainer to be able to say stop.Takes an even better trainer to know why.

I always wondered how trainers with hundreds of horses spread all over the country could keep tabs on every single one of them.

Of course they can't. We know now that assistants like Dallas Stewart, Todd Pletcher, Mark Hennig and others -- mentored by Lukas -- were the real trainers behind much of Lukas' stable. Of course that doesn't take away from the jobs he did with horses like Tabasco Cat, but it seems to me a trainer on that scale demands capable assistants or else the operation is doomed to fail no matter how good DWL is. Lukas does get credit for teaching them.

When a trainer goes south people often wonder why. I bet at least some of the time it's because he lost his best assistant.

If she's still in heat, maybe they're going to breed her now.

If she came into season the Wednesday prior to the race, no way is she still in season now.

They can give her a shot and short cycle her if they're really in a hurry. But likely they'll let her down slowly from the regiment of training, send her to the farm and maybe breed her this year.

Ahhh the wonderful world of horseracing. It isn't everyday that a bettor sues the trainer of a horse, but that is honestly what is going on in Sweet Catomine's case. I think all know the story of how it wasn't reported that she was in the vet clinic the week before the race and also was in heat. She had some problems alright and a bettor is taking it to court because the info was kept so secret. I think, and I could be wrong about this, but I think the talk of retirement is to cover his butt in this case.
I wish I had known I could sue when my horse lost. I would be a millionaire by now, but I do agree a lot wasn't disclosed about Sweet Catomine.
I'm not so sure I truly believe she is being retired. I'm going to wait this one out and see if this isn't all talk because of a court case.
OK, you are now free to take your best shot at me...I'm very resiliant :bang: :bang: :bang:

My post yesterday morning:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My guess is they took her out to breed her and the treatment was a cover.
She would bring in much more money as a broodmare than she ever could as a runner especially if she bleeds through lasix.
I predict she will never run again and Wygod will ship her to KY where he is listed as a breeder.
__________
Wygod has connecrtions to Run Mill Farms. That is where SC's full sister was foaled and probably SC.

Some of the great female runners IMHO...

Miesque
Won back to back Breeder's Cup races, beating the boys in the 88 Mile.

Pebbles
Also beat the boys in the Breeder's Cup (85 Turf)

Genuine Risk
KY Derby winner 1980

Winning Colors
KY Derby winner 1988

Personal Ensign
Almost a perfect record

Bayakoa
Has there ever been a runner with more heart?

IMHO, Sweet Catomine pales by comparison.

"I expect she’ll be coming into heat within a day of her arrival in Lexington." That is thew end of this week; says she was in heat April 6.
I do not know much about predicting when fillies will come into heat, but I read that the driver said coming and going that she was going to a farm.

So, if she's worth so much, why would he sneak her out in the middle of the night to breed her to a California sire? I don't think so.

She's by Storm Cat, right? I don't think a 2YO champ with that pedigree is going to be covered by Benchmark or Slewpy.

Wygod owns a large breeding operation called River Edge in Buellton, 10 miles from the Los Olivos treatment center. Wygod's top stallion there is Bertrando. He was also a big contributor to Gov. Gray Davis' recall, supposedly.
No joke.

No joke.

Bertrando stands for $12,500 and has produced little in the last few years. No way a regally bred filly with three Grade I wins is going to be sent to Bertrando.

Anyone think there is a double message here. We make the game not the bettors not the track. You embarass us and we take the money and run. No more great filly (and she was a great filly against other females.) or we go to another track etc.
