How would I bet the following results:

For the month of April 2002.

Bets: 51
Won: 36 (70.6%)
Place: 47 (92.2%)

Win ROI: 23.8%
Place ROI: 20.4%

Naturally, this is a take off on short priced favorites. I have been tracking this since December 2001 and it has shown a profit every month. I plan on tracking this for at least one year.

One of the problems: I need to know the closing odds as close to post time as possible. I have been disappointed with some of the online betting sites-I have not been able to get bets in at one minute to post and ideally it should be at zero minutes. I may have to modify my betting plan. If any subscriber is working on a similar approach and would like to exchange ideas please email me or post a reply.

The question: Is there a good way to bet short priced favorites with a high win and place %? I read the material on RPM's Hammering the Chalk but I did not understand the 48 parlay concept and in my opinion the work presented was flawed.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for, possibly to increase the ROI to withstand the inevitable losing streak. In this one month sample there were only four bets that did not place so you get long streaks of winning bets. Is there a way of taking advantage of this?

With those results (if they are similar in past months) I would ignore the win end. If you are making 23% to win and 20% to place, you can risk more of your capital on a place bet and get close to the same ROI and a greater dollar return.

I wouldn't worry about increasing your ROI. 20% in the place spot is great on short priced horses and your losing streaks should be very short if you can stay anywhere near your place percentage you achieved this month.

Awesome results. I hope you can keep it going.

Have you looked at what would happen if you bet once to win and twice to place?

In other words...

Are you playing the same multiples to W & P?

If so, try playing double the multiples on the place end.

example
$2 Win $4 Place

On the betting end of it...
I play the odds until 3 minutes to post...
After I record the 3 minute line, it takes me 30 to 45 seconds to see if the race is playable, and if so, formatting the wager.

I find that I have about 2 1/2 minutes to place the wager...

Phone bet worked for me for a while...

Royalsports takes you pretty close...

I'm doing some consulting work for an online casino that has horse racing plans as well. Their setup is probably the best that I've seen, but it's still a few weeks from being operational...
