So that's how he beat my boy Diligent Gambler back in Feb. We smelled a rat after the race the way the winner ran!!! That 2nd trainer was the winner who beat us...Mr Determined...Mr Druggie...
Now we get 2nd place $$$$. Tough enough to win at this game without all these druggies...yea Mr Determined...my ass!

And they get stiff 15 day suspensions. That should certainly deter any other trainers from doping their horses.
NY has been juice city for years. Why would they want to change the tradition  ?

Here's a link to the Blood-Horse article in case you can't get into DRF:
http://news.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=27530
I think the most important line from the article is the following:
It is unlikely a detention barn would curb the use of clenbuterol, which is used in training and administered days ahead of a race.
I know SC is affected personally by this ruling, but cheating bastard may be a bit harsh in this case. Since this drug is used in training and is adminstered days ahead of a race, it could very well be an honest mistake.
But, in this day and age of increased visibility, I guess nobody gets the benefit of the doubt anymore....they're just a cheating bastard....
Any trainer worth his salt should know that clenbuterol is detectable to 50 picograms, and detection is further enhanced by the use of lasix (which Mr. Determined was probably also treated with). No trainer would deliberately try to cheat with clenbuterol, because he would be fined and suspended, and the owner would lose the purse....which is what happened here.
Then again, any trainer worth his salt should know standard doses of clenbuterol take upwards of 96 hours to leave the body....so he probably screwed up, but took the chance on running him anyway, leaving it up to the labs to see if he waited long enough or not....
The system worked in the end.

Candlin and Demola? That's like MLB suspending the guy from Tampa for steroids. Whatever Candlin and Demola must use hasnt been real effective. Aren't both those guys single digit percentage winners?

I went back and watched the replays ...wow...Mr Determined set a good pace on the lead, was caught at the 1/8th pole, then turned on the "GAS" and pulled away again. Yea, oats and water do that!!!! LOL
Lets see how he runs next time out...he runs again saturday! ;)

So then, it's your opinion that DeMola deliberately ran his horse with enough "clen" in his system to improve performance, while also thinking it won't be discovered in the post race drug testing, resulting in a DQ and suspension (nevermind the loss of purse $$$)?
This makes no sense.

IN MY OPINION, he rolled the dice that the level was below the threshold of the testing lab, that the horse would be clean on his drug screen. All horses retain or clean out at different levels, and there is NO way to know for sure...do YOU think that he thought he was running a clean horse?
I asked my trainers and they would rather scratch out than roll the dice and lose purse money and clients. They all say there is no way they would run a horse if there was any way this legal med would show up.
The correct way is for the trainer to use the med and test his horse PRIOR to the race, using his own lab and pay the $28.00 test fee! Rather than have to return the purse and then piss of the owners!
But no trainer will ever pre race test his stable...they are not ready for that.
Colleges routinely test their athletes BEFORE the race, play whatever...and the cheaters are NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY in the NCAA's where they will be tested and names put out there to shame their colleges. So everytime you see a bowl team, NCAA hoops team say "so and so is not playing because he broke UNIVERSITY rules" guess what...he did it! MIami football, Ok, football with Bosworth...have kept their positive players out of bowl games. As well as my own institution 3-4 years back with a hoops player!
It can be done and is done with humans trainers to protect the athletes and colleges ...but in racing NEVER!
).
The system worked in the end.
No, it did not work, It failed miserably. As it always does.
The bettors got screwed. Cheatiung bastard is far too kind. this SOB needs major suspension-I would say a year minimum. He could use the time to learn how to count to 96 and next time he might think twice befroe he contaminated the betting pools with an illegal entry.
This ain't horseshoes here, it is a business, a gambling business, and there can be zero tolerance for "mistakes." By anyone, ever.

I have no evidence but IMO there was a suspicious race at Kee yesterday. I can't remember the name of the filly but she was getting bet througout and had never been on the lead in any of her past performances. The heavy chalk on paper figured to clear easily but when the gates opened, the "other" filly was battling outside the heavy favorite, going head to head in 21 1/5. So what happened? She just destroyed the favorite and drew off to win by a big margin. That is exactly the type of race that makes me suspicious and I will look to bet against that filly next time out. So much for the new testing in Kentucky.

OK boss. How much clenbuterol was found in Mr. Determined? A couple of nanograms, a couple of picograms? If it was a trace amount, it didn't enhance the horse's performance one bit. Some argue that even a full dose isn't a performance enhancer, but I'll leave that up to the vets and the trainers to decide.
Point is, we don't have all the facts. And I'm not here to defend this trainers actions (or inactions). What he did was wrong, and Demola and the owner are being punished for their mistakes.
Whether the bettors got screwed is debateable, especially since we don't know the amounts of the drug that were detected.
(I love playing devil's advocate, in case you haven't noticed).
Valuist,
The horse was from a trainer who was 2 for 4 1st off the claim, if we are talking about the same race. I noticed right away, but boxed with the favorite, doh. The horse paid $20+ to win.

Thats the horse. Its still suspicious. Maybe the guy just has the best hay and oats around.

I agree, just saying I figured out pretty quick when the odds openend what was going on, but got greedy and tried to hit the exacta.

Does this filly wear blinkers?
PA,
I don't know how much was found, but I know how much money you got back if you bet the horse that got beat. Zip. Owners got paid, but the back bone of the game got screwed.
PS..I've notice that devil in you...that's why I like you!;)

PA-
Yes, the filly had blinkers on. I looked up the chart and her name is Nachen. Interesting that while on TVG yesterday, the first quarter was shown in 21 1/5, Equibase had it in a more realistic 22 1/5.

Was just an above average horse today...the old boy didn't have the EXTRA KICK that he showed last time out when he came up POSITIVE FOR DRUGS (is that being nice enough PA?)...by the way...I did yell at his trainer post race in the paddock...no juice today and he gave me a look..too f-ing BAD... :D
Also, a great crowd at the Big A today, almost 10,000...lot's of families with kids and young people. The clubhouse seats were all gone outside on the 2nd flood and all the tables in the clubhouse were gone hours before the 1st race...great to see so many people coming back out...Equestris restaurant sold out...Turf club sold out...I wonder what the total handle was today, both on and total???
PS: The turf course looked great today in preparation for the spring turf meet!
