Thoroughbred times reports horses, but not racers, may be cloned. Cloner Allen said:
"The value of the cloning there would be to recreate the champion gelding, or at least his testicles."

I can't see that they'd permit a cloned horse to be a sire of future racers. Am I wrong? Are they going to allow for that????

or at least his testicles.

I'm picturing a lab jar labeled "Abi-normal"

Allen, dad in law of Delatorri, wants England to allow it for racing.
Is there an Eclipse award for geldings?

With thoroughbred breeding moving toward sprinters and the breeders thinking about cloning thoroughbreds so that champion geldings can be stallions, it won't be long until the leading thoroughbred sires are all Phone Trick geldings.

Is John Henry still alive?

OK, it's the 3rd and some have not caught on yet.

The story was carried on APRIL FIRST. I think the "testicle" comment was intended to give it away (The one in the article, not the one I made :D ).

Is John Henry still alive?

The last I heard he was. I think he's stabled at Kentucky Horse Park.

This website quotes Allen as against racehorse cloning, but the idea was initiated by Italian horsemen.

Even more interesting idea: why do horses need papers (pedigree)?

Cut to the derby nomination window, year 2020:

"Hello, I'd like to enter my horse in the derby."
"You got his papers?"
"Dont need 'em!"
"Dont need em?"
"Did genetic testing on him, he's every bit the same as Man OWar."
"Who's his father?"
"No one knows, we found him roaming the desert. But his x gene matches Matchem...He's every bit a thoroughbred."
"Well how do we know his grandfather wasnt a zebra or a giraffe or something?"
"He's got the same y gene as La Troienne, he's no different than any other tb."
"Oh yeah? What about the recombinant DNA?"
"Recombinant...what?"

That gelding is worth cloning!
