I am familiar with the Barry Meadow's treatment of the subject of exactas and what constitutes fair value from his book Money Secrets.....

What I'd like to know is if there are any other works on the subject, either in print, on the web, or private....especially those that deal with formulas, etc, which can be programed to calculate what the exacta should pay based on the money in the win pool, AND the money in the exacta pool....

Thanks in advance,

PA,
Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but check out http://www.hypernormal.com/html/drz_exotic_browser.html

Also, Dr. Z's book, "Betting at the Racetrack" at http://www.hypernormal.com/html/dr_z_books.html

These might be useful.

John

I have two books that cover Wagering Formulas for Exactas and Trifectas.
http://www.camptownraces.com

Niether breaks down what the payoffs will be, but all of the Formulas are designed to give you the best dollar for dollar return for the type of race that you are playing.

Dick Mitchell has an exacta formula in some of his books and his exacta video tape. He tells how to quickly calculate the "fair" odds.

There is such at table at Turfpedia:

I found another one on the web, but I don't remember where. Maybe it was just a formula. I do remember that it had completely different values than the table listed above.

What is the correct way to do it?

All the Exacta tables I have ever seen do not take into account how many horses are in the race. Isn't this a key factor? I would think a 3-1 over q 4-1 should pay more in a 12 horse field than it would in 5 horse field.
