OK. Has anyone here heard of TelevisionWithoutPity.com? It's a big website filled with recaps, previews, and message boards of television shows.

Well, I'm advising you all NEVER to post there. Here's why: I WAS BANNED FOR NOTHING!

Here's my e-mail correspondence with one of the busybody, self-important mods (NOTE: LEARN FROM P.A.!!!!!). Guys, tell me, did she have a motive, or do I have enough of a legit complaint to go to the head of the site?

NOTE: Top is most recent from moderator.

If you weren’t already warned, you’d be warned again for attitude, for violating the FAQ and for generally not getting it.

Well, you were warned. Twice. And you should have left it at that. Instead, you didn’t. And now you’re banned. Enjoy not posting.

OK...the first warning, with the two mini-posts instead of the big one, I definitely understand. But the second one, with the two long posts, were two totally different posts, both were different parts of the leg. I do not see how it is possible to cram everything into one big, large post, yet still write to the best of my ability.

I realize that this is against the FAQ, but this is something I don't understand, and a matter that, in my opinion, needs to be cleared up. If you would like to communicate more about this, my address on AOL Instant Messenger is horsefan3277.

Thank you very much for your time and effort, I appreciate the work you and other moderators do on the TWoP forums, I just don't see the point of this at all.

Best wishes and regards,

Andrew "ny1125" Champagne

PS: I'm 16, and if you're one of the believers in the theory that my generation is a wasted one, you can blame this on that, LOL. :)

Just in case the TWoP response was eaten by spam:

Your computer didn't burp and it wasn't a forum blip. In the Whimsy thread you posted one long post (that's still there) and then a second one directly after that. AND you did it again at 8:30 this morning and 8:33. It's not possible to accidentally double post three minutes apart and you seem to be acknowledging that you have a previous post up there, it just happens to be on the next page. I'll link to them so you can see, but this isn't a computer/mouse/forum glitch. Sorry, but it's true. You're supposed to edit your original post to add more thoughts and, if doing so makes your post too long, you have to shorten it. Here are the links:

Mar 21, 2005 @ 09:57 PM post: http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3122079&view=findpost&p=2681635
Mar 22, 2005 @ 06:53 PM post: http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3122079&view=findpost&p=2686035
[there was a post directly after this, but it was deleted due to the double posting]

8:30 AM post: http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3122079&view=findpost&p=2688767
8:33 AM post: http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3122079&view=findpost&p=2688780

And here is the portion of the FAQ that tells you about the double posting:

Can I post a bunch of consecutive messages if I keep thinking of things to add?

No. Instead, edit your initial post to add subsequent thoughts. As we've already said above, if you don't see the "edit" link over only your own posts, you're not logged in, and you should be.

A word to the wise: emailing mods to request that they "clear this up" is not only frowned upon, it's also in the FAQ.

What is that little "warn level" thing under my username?

The duration of the warning is at the mod's discretion. It may be permanent, or not. Assume it will last forever; then, if a mod happens to reduce your warn level down the road, you'll be pleasantly surprised! But don't email us or post on the boards to protest a warn or to ask us to reduce your warn level; it doesn't work that way and will probably just end badly.

If you haven't read the FAQ already, then I'd suggest you do so as soon as possible.

If I did, I apologize dearly. I had no knowledge of it, at all, whatsoever. I'm very sorry for any and all inconvenience caused, but please clear this up, my computer must have burped or something.

And for anyone who wants to rally in my defense, the thread in question was in the "Amazing Whimsy" forum, entitled "TWoP TAR 2?".

But fair warning: The mod won't give you more than a post or two once she finds out your intentions, MAKE THEM COUNT!

You had a bad attitude. You were contrite apologetic and even groveled a little for good measure. Who needs them. I went to the site to see what Tom posted, but either he hasn't had a chance yet, or they already deleted the post.

"Have fun not posting." Sounds like a real nice place over there. You know that the chick must have an earring through her lip, a mustache and weigh about 2 and a 1/4.

I am familiar with the site. Like most large and popular forums, they are very strict about the rules to keep things under control. Which is fine and appropriate, but those mod positions also usually attract Napoleanic type personalities....

Bubbles

Yeah, GameTheory, they are. But when those rules involve such things as not being able to protest any possible wrongdoing, there's probably something wrong with the picture, lol.

Yeah, GameTheory, they are. But when those rules involve such things as not being able to protest any possible wrongdoing, there's probably something wrong with the picture, lol. That site gets hundreds of posts every minute. You break the rules as a newbie more than once and you're out, simple as that. They simply aren't going to take the time to attempt to be completely "fair" or patient with every individual who wants to post and hasn't bothered to read the rules and comply (in their opinion). There simply isn't time -- being a moderator there is a real "job" that takes a lot of time -- which is why they just basically say "read the rules and follow them, don't bother us with a lot of questions". I think the mods actually get paid (they used to, not sure if they stilll are) and are required to spend X amount of time keeping watch. They might even be on an exact schedule where they moderator for certain hours of the day. The site was in financial trouble for a while after the banner advertising market fell apart, and they cut back on some things, not exactly sure how it works these days....

Wow...they get PAID to be nasty?

The fact that being a mod is a stressful job is one thing. Being surly to a poster with a legit complaint is another. By the way, I was hardly a newbie, I'd been at the site for about seven months.
