I understand a proper change can give a horse a boost for turn time; Some horses that never learn to change or rtefuse to may be at a disadvantage as they try to stretch out to a race with more turns and lose more stamina.
Maybe the lousy lead changers are better off at bigger wider tracks with 1 turn miles?
