Help!

My computer has totally forgotten it has a CD-rom and a DVD player, or that it ever did have them.

"Devices" in system properties does not seem to be the answer.

Drives "D" & "E" respectively, which do not show up in the directory.

WIN98se.

Thanks very much for your time.

Could your cables have come loose inside?

Win98.......I am thinking virus.......unless you installed an older roxio or Iomega driver........

what was the last thing you installed?

do you have a boot disk? if not read this link

http://www.duxcw.com/digest/Fromshop/software/windows/startup/startup-2.htm

Only create the disk .....don't follow the Xcopy crap from the page above

Boot up with the startup disk and choose "Start your computer with CD Rom support"

If after that you can access the drives.......(DOS prompt.....type "E: or F:" then hit enter, with a disk in the drive........"dir" enter......)

This will just confirm a software problem (if it works with a boot disk) and not a hardware failure (I don't suspect that) then you can move on to fixing whatever is wrong with windows.

Fill me in later...........I will check back I suspect a virus or you installed an application that made and entry it shouldn't have
