Byron Kiing has a god article in Saturday's DRF about short-term trainer stats. These are the kind I like to look for an use over long term stats. I have found other such short term angles using my HTR database over the years and they seem to be more productive than long term ones, maybe because in the long run, a stat evens out but short term, you get the peak performance of the play. Every year at Fl, there are a few trainer plays that will only last for a few short weeks, but all you need a hit or two at big odds to literally make you season.

some type of Stock Market analysis software to spot short term trends for the spot plays in his software package.

Sort of fits in to what you are talking about because if you can find a way to zero in on those couple of hot weeks of that trainer you were talking about or of an angle that is working you can have your self a really nice meet.
