When using the term "turn time", what would be considered
the "final turn" 1/2 mi. to the stretch, or stretch to the finish?
any feedback is appreciated.

thanks in advance.

If memory serves me correctly, turn time is the 1/2 mile call (for sprints) + the 1/2 mile call, less 2nd qtr call.

For example, a horse that ran 22.60 - 45.40 would have a turn time of
45.40 + (45.40-22.60=22.80) = 68.20.

I have never heard the turn used in connection with the stretch.

In a 6F sprint the turn time is time recorded between the 2F and 4F calls of the race. During this time the horses are racing on the turn.

Kingfin,

I think what you described is Ability time a la Dick Mitchell.

Thanks for the reply.
So if i wanted to see how much a horse gained on the final turn,
by position only, then i should check what he gained from the 1/4 to the 1/2?

thanks.

Thanks for the reply,i was thinking more of where the gain
takes place.
i.e. starts and finishes.

thanks.

Mickey D,

In a typical 6F Race most of the turn is run between the 2F & 4F mark. But be careful at other distances (longer sprints) and bullring configurations where this part of the race may not be totally on the turn.

Any questions or want further reading on turn time should read Tom Brohammers "Modern Pace Handicapping", its the definitive book on the subject.
