HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- It should come as no surprise to learn that Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas is taking dead aim at the major stakes races coming up here at Oaklawn Park.

Reached at his Santa Anita barn this morning, Lukas (pictured) said that he plans to send Going Wild, a two-time stakes-winner at that track, to Oaklawn for the $250,000 Rebel Stakes on March 19, and the $1 million Arkansas Derby on closing day, April 16.

Going Wild's presence will lend even more sex appeal to the Rebel, which is coming up as a race for the ages. Already committed to the mile and a 16th test for 3-year-olds are the unbeaten Rockport Harbor, Eclipse runnerup Afleet Alex and Greater Good, a two-time stakes-winner at 2.

Going Wild, a Golden Missile colt owned by Bob and Beverly Lewis, will come to the Rebel off back-to-back $100,000 stakes wins at Santa Anita -- the San Miguel and the Sham. Overall, the Kentucky-bred has been no worse than third, compiling a 3-2-1 record in six starts.

Going Wild is all speed so Rockport Harbor can expect some company on the front end.

Lukas has won the Rebel once -- back in 1989 with Manastash Ridge.

I'm encouraged by this horse so far. He has shown true courage and determination. The Sham was a perfect example .. and that was his first try going further than 7 Furlongs.

He is unbeaten at Santa Anita, where he has earned all 3 of his career wins.

Going to Oaklawn, he'll have to prove he can run his races on a different surface, and that his first route was no fluke.

Certainly a horse to keep on the radar screen.
