PA:

I believe hostility has increased in the racing areas of the board. For example read the Magic Two Furlong thread. In that thread two posters on two separate issues attacked me. One poster accused me of nitpicking because I made a comment about the questionable value of horse beaten by many lengths in hits next out.

Additionally, the Original poster accused me of giving him pace handicapping lessons, , implied I was paranoid, and finally that I was slapping myself on the back, with self-induced visions of grandeur, after posting a reply because the original poster concluded I believed the poster asked a stupid question.

I responded to the nitpicking issue, and decided to leave the original poster’s final thoughts go. I could have easily retorted about someone else knowing all about spelling paranoia , but I let it go.

All this hostility, because I questioned an admitted vendor’s assertion about a well beaten horse's value returning against the same competition and asking the original poster to please identify the top of the stretch by the furlong marker. I clearly stated I asked this specific question, regarding the furlong marker, to clear up my confusion.

I am sure if I responded in-kind to the original poster there would have been an escalation in the hostility. I chose to let final statements, regarding his importance to my mental health, slide and they would have stayed buried, if not for your posts questioning hostility on your board.

I know I am not completely faultless, as I have made some inappropriate remarks, out of frustration, and when my remarks have been pointed out to me I try to apologize

Yes, hostility has increased in the racing areas of the board.

You should check out the thread that I entered offering to help with an offshore sportsbook dispute (since I know some people who have access to people on the other side of the screen) and I ended up being called a racist, go figure...

yep. you are correct PA.

Maybe it' s the new color scheme. :D

Maybe it's winter racing or lack of sunshine.

I for one will try to adhere to the 'if you can' t say anything nice...' motto from now on. (yeah...right)

Miscommunication happens, but you are right that once in a while it goes beyond that. People should make more of an effort to look at threads seperately instead on linking by "hostility".

SMTW,

I haven't read the thread that you posted of. All I can say is that I hope you just ignore any comments you don't feel are in line, and leave it at that. You've left the board for awhile in the past, I sure missed your posts on both racing and off topic. Don't let any of the peripheral BS get to you.

Elkabong:

Thanks for the nice words. I did leave the board but my hiatus had nothing to do with other board members behavior. So I will probably still post even if there is an increase in hostility on the board.

But thanks again for the kind words.

BTW do you use Elkabong as your nick, because it was Quick Draw McGraws' alias, or as Baba Louie would say Quicks Draw.

Politics and religion are volatile subjects.......one must be thick skinned to argue one side or the other.......
As far as hostile remarks about someone's handicapping/betting ideas?????
:D
Don't let it bother you, SMTW.......just reply, thank you for calling that to my attention, I'll give it some thought.....and secretly hope THEY BET IN THE SAME POOLS YOU BET IN!!!!!!
Look, if EVERYONE agrees with your handicapping ideas????? YOU ARE ON THE WRONG TRACK!!!!!!!
Just my humble opinion, if any of you don't agree? Bless you......please bet in the Santa Anita win pools! LOL
Have a good day everyone! ;)

When you bait with negative comments about Christainity, expect hostility. That comment had nothing to do with the thread-stay on topic and you will find a lot less confrontation. But dish out that kind of crap and I will respond.

SMTW,

Last summer when Sec was giving out false info on the swiftvets, mixing up names and dates, trying to quote people who've been dead for 6-7 years as if they'd spoke last week (Tom Belodeau), I felt like someone needed to break a guitar or two over Sec's head. Thus, El Kabong. ;)

Keep on posting!

I think it's because we have a lot of new posters.
I've found over the years here the hostility index rises when a lot of new people come on board and try to assert themselves right away.

The vets here are usually pretty cool (outside of the OFF TOPICS section, which is off subject I think. SMTW was referring to hostile and uncalled for remarks made in the context of the racing areas.)

Let us all remember, we come here as a diversion from our real lives. This is supposed to fun dammit! Why not just try to not take things so seriously. When we're dealing with written communication via the internet, it is very, very easy to have the tone of a message come through in a way that is was not intended. Everyone, myself included, should stop taking themselves so seriously.

That said, if you go to the off topic area and voice your opinion, you're fair game. Why? Because if you enter into a discussion regarding religion or politics things will always get heated. It's one of those facts of life.

Everyone have a great day!

Hurrikane!
LOL
You're right! Most of you men LOVE to insult and argue with each other....it's the nature of the beast!
For PA to censor you guys, it really ruins all your fun!
For the few other women who post on our board....we must toughen up and not be offended, boys just want to have fun! :D

I started this thread in response to P.A.'s inquery about an increase in hostility and not as a call to censorship. If people want to come on the board to kick the proverbial dog (other posters) after a bad day, to cause trouble or to create mischief so be it.

Personally, I just ignore the insulting post. However, I try to treat people the way I would liked to be treated, but that is just me.

So I am not expecting or urging censorship, except for the one guy that said I was paranoid (sarcasm).
